Showcasing superb functionality and some of the most modern technology currently available, the DSC-F707 combines a 5.24-megapixel CCD, a pivot Carl Zeiss lens, hologram AF laser focus second, and Sony's NightShot technology, which enables you to shoot infrared photos.

    Optics and Issue
The Sony DSC-F707 features a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens with 5x visual and 2x digital zoom (for a 10x total), an f2.0 maximum aperture, and a focal vary of 9.7-48.5mm (equivalent to 38-190mm). It contains a 5.0-megapixel (outstanding) CCD, or 5.2-million gross pixels.

    More Features
The DSC-F707 uses Sony's NightShot technology, the same visage seen on Sony's camcorders, which uses infrared illumination and an infrared exclude to take photos in complete darkness. The night-framing system provides infrared phosphorescence as a composition assist, and utilizes hologram AF focusing and preflash disclosure metering for consistently great shots even in low- or zero-light situation.

Picture quality is enhanced with clear-color NR (noise reduction) that reduces feel ashamed noise and slow-shutter NR that captures and subtracts CCD noise from crave time exposures.

To transport images to your computer, simply attach the included USB cable between your PC and your camera--your computer should unconsciously recognize the camera and let you move the pictures to your hard drive. If you own a Sony desktop or laptop, your computer may also have a built-in Homage Stick reader, which makes transferring as easy as reading a floppy disk.

    Beneficial camera for infrared photography
I bought this camera for infrared photography and am in seventh heaven with it using the night mode and an IR filter. The added bonus is the beautiful color construction for regular photos. Very nice camera.

I'd give it five stars if it had a memory function to save your settings.

    Sony DSCF707
I have had three of these cameras since 2001. The first was stolen when I was mugged on the steps of the St. Take a run-out powder Basilica in Paris. I had already fallen in love with the camera by then. When we returned home, I was blown somewhere else with the clarity of the photographs which I'd uploaded to a laptop, fortunately, before the camera was stolen. I only use the optical zoom on this camera and I was mainly impressed with the focus that allowed me to zoom into and blow up a small portion of photos I'd already bewitched with the zoom lens at its maximum length. I also like the feel of the camera. I know that many populace rave about pocket-size cameras, but I'm used to a larger SLR and like the heft of this camera. This late spring as we set out on a two month vacation in Spain and Ireland, my F707 failed me. The card reader stopped working and I had to flop back on a pocket-size Nikon. While it did a credible job, I could definitely see the difference in focus and clarity of the photos that came from it as compared to my Sony F707. When we returned to the states, I inquired about having the Sony repaired and found that it was less valuable to purchase a used F707 than to have mine fixed. That's what I did and I'm now a happy camper again. I love this camera and felt cursed without it. I know there are improvements coming down the line, but I'll wait until I can get the same performance in a new camera that I get from this one. The only features I maid from this camera are a better low light capability and a larger memory capacity.
    Obsoleted by Sony?
The DSCF707 has a renowned lens and a lot of functionality (including full manual mode, infra-red capabilities, mpeg w/ audio, etc.). The foremost thing for me, though, is how the lens can pivot vertically relative to the body (or the body to the lens?). This means you don't have to upon it up to your face--you can take shots discreetly from waist-level or around a corner, or you can hold it up over a crowd for a punter angle, and still see the LCD screen. Very handy, and I don't understand why it's not a common feature. It came (from benselectronics) without a lens cap (58mm) or the camera-charging constituent (Sony AC-L10A) AND a battery (Sony NP-FM50 M) at the very end of it's useful life, but that's all stuff I was able to buy elsewhere. I don't know how the next procreation (the 717) compares, but Sony doesn't make anything along these lines anymore, so get one while you still can, and buy a couple added batteries in case those become obsoleted too.
    Sony F707 Retrospective Examine
I'm out shopping for a new camcorder and am penchant towards a Sony model. This brought to mind my Sony F707.

    **ON THE UP SIDE**

I bought it in 2001 and paid a lot. I judge devise with all the stuff I got with it, it came to about $1300. Best money I ever spent on an electronic device.

First off - if you have this camera or are picking one up, globule $10 on an appropriately sized UV lens attachment. It doesn't really change your pictures, at all (it's a incontrovertible lens). What it does do, however, is protect your precious and expensive Zeiss lens underneath. Over the years, my UV lens - in all right ALL THE TIME - has saved me from trashing the *REAL* lens multiple times. I've had to replace the UV lens twice - at a rate of 20 more dollars. That, my friends, is a bargain compared to the alternative. The fact that you can attach any covey of aftermarket things to the lens (because it is standard sized) is just plain awesome.

I got a 128MB tarry with the camera. Sounds sort of laughable now, but I've operated that camera at the highest resolution for every depict from day ONE. No problem. It still fits 60 or so pictures. Have a laptop handy with a USB stick reader and you've got masses of storage.

I've taken this camera everywhere. From the Mayan ruins in Mexico to the top of the CN Tower in Toronto - the pictures I have charmed as a rank amateur have impressed many people. Most recently, I used it at the Philadelphia Phillies Creation Series Victory Parade in Philly (DUH!). With the way the camera twists, I was easily clever to hold it HIGH up over my head and still get exactly the shot I wanted. People see the pictures and about I was in the front row when, in fact, I was about 5 rows people deep into the crowd. The sea of red hats/shirts contrasted against the buildings in a mongrel light environment (buildings/shadows/bright spots) looks awesome.

There are LOTS of settings to malfunction with if you want to experiment. Some of my coolest shots where nighttime long-exposure pictures of the illuminated Niagara Falls. And I pulled it off without a tripod on keeping (hold camera VERY still...LOL).

I take a lot of pictures of my kid's sports activities. While there is a delay on the initial click-to-fancy process, it doesn't take long to get used to. In any event, I find the built-in "Burst-3" manner to be very useful for sports. I've gotten more sweet shots that way - Bursting "around" the moment I want to shot...outstanding.

    **ON THE DOWNSIDE**

In 2004 or so, I suffered the very common "loose focus ring" poser. This was followed in 2005 by the [very related] "front part of camera falls off" problem and it "now rattles inside" trouble (loose screws). It seems there are a few screws that hold that whole mess together on the inside that have a tendency to come down. Fortunately, at the time, I found a forum on a website that included a posting of the nature of the problem and the steps (track-by-step screenshots/descriptions) to repair it without having to take it to Sony. It is very particular about how it comes separately from and (of course) goes back together. If you have the "loose focus ring problem" - or the more advanced division of that, the "lens falls off front of camera problem", let me know. I saved it and will send you the repair tutor in .PDF format. thedunlapfamilyATcomcastDOTnet.

EDIT: At this time (April 2009), this repair guide to which I just now referred is still on the Internet. Find it here: [...]

BTW - I came to realize the common problem(s) described above are caused by the to some degree "violent" spring action of the pop-up flash. Over the years after hundreds (thousands?) of "POP!"s from the flash, the screws in suspect get slowly rattled looser and looser. Finally, they fall out, but stay contained within the camera.

Once I performed that working order, though, everything was fine. I used Loctite on the screws so they'll never fall out again.

The motion pictures (low quality video) it takes are, predominantly by 2008 standards, a complete joke - many (most?) cell phones take better video, now. But I found it within easy reach from time to time. Most recently, I used it to have some woman tell me her contact information so I could send her the pictures I had charmed. Far easier than writing it down, you know? The sound, at least, is pretty impressive, considering.

    **IN THE END**

My camera still works like a champ. I see no as a result of to upgrade until Sony (or somebody else) essentially re-releases the same camera with updated electronic guts. The man camera, itself, is just about flawless.

I'm the first to rip a product if it sucks, so I figured I'd take a moment to praise this element that has been worth every penny.

    **FINAL WORD**

If you can pick up this camera used and in good teach (especially the Zeiss lens), do it. Get that UV lens/filter I told you about. If nothing else, give it to your teenage aspiring photographer. Let their imaginations run uncivilized with all the cool settings - settings that STILL don't exist on 90% of the cameras being put out today. Enjoy.
    unbelievable camera!
I have been having this camera for 5 years and was never unsatisfied with its fantastic picture quality. It is a really superb camera!

Convenient in melancholy, rose-pink, pretty, iniquitous and suntanned, Sony's Cyber-before you can say 'Jack Robinson' no way DSC-T90 is the latest in a series of slim, chic digicams intended for snapshooters. Operational with a 12.1-megapixel CCD sensor and Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4x visual zoom lens, its key features are its ultra-thin portion, 3-inch LCD touchscreen and  know-how to curriculum vitae 1280x720 pixel 720p HD talking picture clips with stereo into. Wonderful SteadyShot visual effigy stabilisation is also provided. The T90's metal fullness is conventional of the T-series and solidly made with a gloss-down lens screen that doubles as an on/off swap.  Styling is equivalent to its forerunner, the DSC-T77, albeit with some obscure cosmetic changes. Like more rapidly models, the T90 is a scaled-down reading of a more knowledgeable image, in this receptacle, the T900, which has a larger, higher-word of honour touchscreen but is otherwise similarly featured. As in other T-series models, the lens, run, recording microphone and LED lamp utilized for the  self-timer/beam shutter blame for and AF lighting are tucked in behind the physiognomy layer when the camera is stored. Folded optics are acclimated to for the lens scheme, secretarial for its puny measure assess and to some degree lackadaisical utmost fissure bracket of f/3.5 to f/4.6. Although you can record adjustments with either the stylus supplied with the camera or the tip of a fingernail, getting a note for the amount of persuade required on the parade camera's revelation was frustrating. There were times when a mounting activated with the pure and simple boscage of a fingertip and others where we had to give a compact box to impact the modification. ‘Seizing the two seconds' to take a decisive opportunity is obstructive in such situations. A: Canon implemented the EOS system, perchance 10-15 years ago, so doubtful they are compatable. But the EOS system is for any Canon camera, video or still. All the lenses are compatable throughout the Canon contract with.

What type of camera should I get?

    Q: Hey guys!!!
(Please know below to get a feel of what I'm looking for. Thanks!)

First of all, I really enjoy photography, I'm the bona fide paparazzi of my little cousin and I do love taking pictures of unordered beautiful things. But, my camera just doesn't cut it anymore, few if even any shots can arrest quick moving objects: people running, jumping, dancing, ETC. That is my sheer concern, I really want quality photos. My camera is a sony cybershot dsc-w50 by the way.
I've been looking into Digital SLRs but of speed realize they are expensive. Since I really want quality, I'm looking into Nikons and would waste around $500 but definitely not over the thousands. I am in high school after all.
I almost forgot, I be versed people choose cameras based on how they'll use it in life. Well, I do design to pursue a career as a Graphic Designer, which I know includes images. I am also a DJ and it would improve our company in that way as well. Thats all I can think of so far, (sorry so long) Well, I Dialect expect that helps too!

Now heres my real question, should I get a DSLR, or a solid quality digital camera? Also, are you a photographer and what has your camera done for you?

Here are the models I'm looking at:

Nikon - Coolpix 10.1-Megapixel Digital Camera

A: Before responding to your problem, I would like to preface my response regarding the issue of whether or not you should securing strictly major "professional brand" DSLRs, such as Canon, Nikon, etc. It seems that there is a much broader consummation which is not addressed initially and that is: Can anyone actually find a difference in the final symbol which camera was used to produce that image? Failing that, we ere long realize that almost "any" DSLR is subject to the mastery of pictorial techniques brought by the user of the camera. Nevertheless, there are those who seem to believe that owning a portion of high-priced camera equipment will entitled them to show off as being "professionals," which is fully not true. Anyone who wants to debate the issue of whether or not Canon or Nikon DSLRs are higher-level to each other or to other DSLRs; is just engaging in brand choice silliness because you can't see the difference in the final image.

If you are really on a budget and long for the best quality for the money, check out the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 which is reviewed at:
