Amazon.com Goods Description Put the power of advanced photography in your hands with the Canon PowerShot S1 IS ultra-zoom digital camera. With its wonderful-long Zoom, amazing stability and true Movie Standard operating procedure, the PowerShot S1 IS brings a new dimension to the PowerShot line. Equipped with a host of top-quality features, this stylishly snug camera lets you create stills and movies like you've never done before.

10x Visual 38-380mm Zoom with exclusive Optical Image Stabilizer
Hidden, closer, closest: the high-speed Zoom Motor moves you in at top quickness in near silence. So the high-resolution, super long 10x Visual 38-380mm Zoom Lens (35mm equivalent) with Canon’s restricted optical Image Stabilizer can let you capture the action with an intensity you've never seen before. Canon's group-type optical Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, which significantly reduces the effects of camera twitch--an important feature for high-magnification lenses. Tiny upward detection gyros and a correcting lens element counteract the effects of lens shivering to deliver sharper final images. The resulting compensation is the tantamount of between 2 and 3 extra stops, which means the camera can be used at slower shutter speeds without a tripod without any detectable spreading in image blur.

    Optics and Solution
The PowerShot S1 IS features a maximum resolution of 3.2 megapixels, or 2048 x 1536 pixel images--enough for prints up to 11 x 14 inches. It also has 1600 x 1200, 1024 x 768, and 640 x 480 perseverance modes. The camera features a 10x, f/2.8 - f/3.1, 38-380mm (35mm equal) optical zoom lens. The zoom is driven by a tiny ultrasonic motor (USM), which uses ultrasonic frequency vibrations to get-up-and-go a tiny rotor that is powerful and highly responsive. In digital still modes it drives the zoom at highest speed, while in video mode it slows for a smooth effect and runs effectively silent, avoiding interference with video sound recording.

    Vari-Standpoint LCD with enhanced resolution

    Canon powershot S-1 IS
Magic camera for an older model. Viewscreen is small but clear even in bright light. Viewfinder washes out some in rosy light. Battery life excellent so far. Picture quality excellent.
    Perfectly like new!
We bought the same camera 4 yrs ago when our first daughter was innate. Used it like proud parents! We then used it again on our second child and on many many vacations, infuse with events, birthdays, etc. The original camera was sturdy and gave us the best quality pictures we could have ever wanted. Well, it absolutely broke down and was too expensive to fix. I found a used on on Amazon and was a bit reluctant but for $110, what the heck. I was very pleased with the packaging and status of the camera. It looks like new and works better than our first camera. Best camera for the folding money!
    Weighty Camera!
I bought this camera in 2005 and I still use it as my preferred camera. I also own an Elf Camera by Canon that I young lady, but the S series is so versatile. I only had to learn a little bit about digital photography to be able to take incredible pictures with this fetich. When I bought it, I sacrificed some megapixels in order to get the great zoom and it was well worth it... extraordinarily since there's no way I'll ever need a print larger than 11x14. It's easy to use, reliable, and I'm very satisfied with the pictures it takes. The multi-aspect LCD screen really comes in handy too.
    Passable Camera; Excellent Customer Service
Bought this camera in 2005. It has been a reliable camera. Simple to use for my wife who wanted a simple point and shoot and with enough adjustments to put up for sale flexibility for myself.

Has worked great until vacation this summer(July, 2009). The image sensor went bad on the first day of vacation. Thankfully, we brought my camera with us(I purchased a digital SLR a meagre over a year ago to satisfy my inner photographer), so we didn't lose out.

When we got home from vacation, I did a itsy-bitsy searching on the internet and found out about the Sony CCD problem and that Canon would repair at no cost. Canon chap service was extremely helpful and very rapid in their response to my e-mail. Canon paid for shipping, repaired it, and sent it back in perfect working shipshape. And no, it was not a ploy to get the camera in the shop for other expensive repairs, as another reviewer posted. The entire manage from initial e-mail to Canon until I got the camera back was 2 weeks. I'm still quite impressed.

    Bad Build Quality
Polite camera when new - but won't stand up to the years of family events. This is the second Canon Powershot I have owned (unheard-of models) - both have suffered maintenance and repair issues even though they were well cared for. Both suffered sticking blaze pop-up issues; this one (S1 IS) now has started to tint all images purple. Canon has acknowledged this fault (flawed Sony CCD) and has offered to repair same free of charge - turns out this is an effort to get folks to send in their cameras and accuse for "unspecified repairs". Camera lasted for about 4 years, as did last one.

Fool me twice...shame on me...my approve of Canon product, now my second Canon product with longevity/build quality issues - I won't be buying a Canon again - can't furnish to keep buying cameras...

Last of the Enjoyable Canon Digital Elph Camera
The Canon PowerShot SD 780IS is my latest and the fourth Digital Elph property. This could very well be the last camera for this Canon branch (with 12+ megapixels)to come with a real-image visual zoom viewfinder. I hope I am wrong on this assumption.

Prove me wrong on the following three points if one could do worth photographic management without a camera viewfinder:

    1) Any compact digital camera(including the new Canon brands) which allows the photographer to get a edible view of the object in front through the LCD screen, with the sun on his back.

    2) Any compact digital camera (including the new Canon brands) which allows the photographer to take swift succession or panning shots viewing through the LCD screen inches away from the eyes.

    3) Take care of battery with a LCD screen only digital camera.

It's no point in lamenting the whys and the stupidity of doing to another place with an optical zoom viewfinder on the Digital Elph series, or any similar cameras for that matter. Pre-eminent Buy doesn't even carry this Digital Elph model. All PowerShot cameras or similar it carries have only LCD screens.

Close digital cameras with viewfinders are a vanishing species. If you like a digital camera with a viewfinder, or have ever own a reduce than a 10 megapixel Canon PowerShot Digital Elph, get the SD780IS camera. It's worth it.

    Notable Choice
I've owned two cameras old to this canon (a kodak & an olympus) and this is by far my favorite. Even though it wasn't the most important factor for me, the small weight is a definite plus. I've used it for an entire day without having low battery although I do think charging every night is a good idea if you use it quite a bit. The picture quality overall is great. Yes, it takes a fuzzy picture from time to time, but if you set the camera correctly (its really easy to do) your pictures will scoot out great. I use this camera for facebook/internet use and for printing normal size photos & find it works very well! And an supplementary bonus - its actually a pretty tough camera. The first week I had it, it was COMPLETELY submerged underwater for 5 minutes (turned off) and after about a week of drying out, it works utterly. I can barely believe it & it makes me love it that much more. I highly recommend this camera!
    Outstanding Camera
I weakness everything about this camera. It's easy to use, it's conveniently tiny, the pictures are clear and taking video is moderate also.
First-class camera for everyday use! Always ready!!!
Attachment this camera. I bought it for my daughter who just turned 19. She loves it too! I'm so glad that I bought it! The outlay was definitely right and the options exceeded our expectations. She has a great camera that is going to always be in readiness for her to roll out and use whenever she needs it in her busy life. And when she slows down, she'll have some great photos to look at and about where she's been and what she did!! :-)
Active little point and shoot - does what I ask
This camera has more functions than I skilled in about I am sure. I just turn it on, point it at what I want and take a picture. They usually turn out leading and if they don't it is probably my fault, and that is the only reason I am giving it 4 stars. Sometimes it would be nice for these cameras to be idiot proof so that they still take fine fantastic pictures when you just point and shoot, but they take even better pictures when you actually know how to use the camera well and utilize all the fancy settings and functions. Some of us don't know how to trick out the F-stops, etc and we truly destitution the camera to do it ALL for us. :-)
But for the most part I'd say 95% of my pictures come out great. I got this camera after a trip to Costa Rica. My woman had a snappy Canon and every time we saw a great picture opportunity my old camera took forever to reprimand to life and I was missing pictures while hers was up and shooting away. I did a lot of research on the Internet and decided on SD780IS, not only for its start up haste but for its other features, which I am slowly learning how to use.
I am no longer missing photo opportunities. It is also small enough that I report it the tiniest of purses, or even my back pocket.

Prodigious Second or third Camera for travel
I must first say that except for a Fuji train a designate and shoot, all my cameras are Canon so I may sound a bit like a Canon commercial but I really like this camera. I purchased this camera as an upgrade to my S5IS. I am planning a sail and am always afraid to take my DSLR cameras and lenses with me for fear of loss or theft and because of weight restrictions on the plane. I toughened the S5IS on a trip to Bermuda and was thrilled with the results. I created a DVD slide presentation and even on a 50 in HDTV, the shots were overwhelming. This camera produces even better pictures, 12 megapixels as apposed to 8 for the S5IS and a 20 times visual zoom as compared with 12 for S5IS. The SX20IS has better video, more features, and a much better zoom. I was astonished with the first shots I took and even when using the digital zoom, the noise was very tolerable and easily rooted with a good photo program. Using the digital zoom, I printed great 4 X 6 prints that were disburden and sharp. I also have a Canon G10, a Canon T1i with an 18 -270 Tamaron lens, and a Canon XTI with a Sigma 18 - 200 lens. When I compared the property of photos between the these cameras and the SX20IS the DSLR did win but not by that much. For the price, the SX20IS will be a great camera to take on a trip where space and weight are of a organization. I recommend this camera to anyone who wants an upper end quality point and shoot camera.
    Bad Camera
I bought this camera in November of 2009 and 8 months later, the feature was eating my batteries like crazy. I would place a new set of batteries in and the camera immediately tells me they are bad and wishes to be changed when the batteries are brand new! Would not recommend buying this camera!
    Canon SX20 IS
I am very happy with its features and my results thus far. Two things to be aware of however. There are no actual filter threads (Canon says the lens shop doesn't permit them) and the owner's manual is on a disc. I'd like to see a printed manual offered at least as an bonus purchase item. There's a lot to know to take full advantage of its potential. I have found that a 52mm filter thread will work, but it does not train of thought on smoothly nor all the way in. It is a secure fit however.
Imaginary Camera - with a few quirks
Momentous Camera! But here's a word to the wise - DON'T FORMAT THE CARD after you've taken pictures! It deleted all of my pictures that I took for my 30th birthday cocktail...I was SO upset. I did download a software that retrieved them, but still - the camera gave absolutely no warning before it deleted 130 pictures. I was in shake up. It is also a heavy camera, be prepared for your arm to get sore while trying to shoot moving subjects.

Other than that - I've charmed some incredible photos and I've had the camera less than a week. It's easy to use, and captures wildlife effortlessly. I've enchanted some gorgeous photos of hummingbirds, and they aren't easy to photograph.

You will love this camera! It's surely worth the money.
    Bent this Camera
I bought this camera about 2 weeks ago, and so far I definitely love it. I had debated between getting a nikon and a canon. Consumer Reports listed the Powershot SX10 IS as its most skilfully super zoom camera and so I figured that the Powershot SX20 IS would not be that much different.

I am not a professional photographer by any means - I well-grounded enjoy taking pictures. I haven't been able to take a bad picuture yet - the sharpness and quality are leave out. I really enjoy just playing around with the different features - although there is no instruction manuel to go along with the camera - you don't in the end need one - I just read the basics to get started and occasionally refer to it for different things. If you well-grounded play around with settings you can't really mess anything up.

    I like it!
I bought this camera for the leading use of taking it with me when I kayak. I had not planned on taking any underwater pics, or even totally submerging it into freely. But, the first time I used it, I dropped it right in the lake. This would be a good time to suggest that, if you delineate on using this camera in a body of water, buy a floating strap to put on it. Without it, it sinks like a stone. Luckily, we found the camera after it was in the pond for a good ten minutes. I fully expected it to never work again. Wrong I was! Works great to this day. Takes effects shots. Easy to use. Actually waterproof! The only thing I would change is that there is no cover for the lens. You categorically need to take a cleaning cloth with to wipe off the lens or your shots may look smudgy from crapola that always tends to throng on an exposed camera lens. Other than that, I highly recommend this camera.
    proper but not amazing pictures
I typically bud with a DSL in RAW but also used to have a little Panasonic Lumix that recently died. Bought this camera for one's own flesh trips that tend to include water activities (and hopefully it won't die anytime soon). Predisposition this camera had RAW.

I shot over 700 pics on recent lake trip. What I found:
    - camera is waterproof
    - inured to on P (not Auto) mode almost exclusively - I set the ISO to lower amount as the higher ISO pictures (that Auto often chose to grow in) aren't worth bothering with - they have a ton of grain and poor color. I also found I needed to use exposure return typically at around -2/3rd stop to get rich colored pictures and not have a ton of blown out highlights. I am not tried why Canon likes to have its shots overexposed but my DSL has same tendency. If I had been using camera right out of the box in Vehicle mode (as I did at home for a couple weeks before the trip) I would be very disappointed with the resultant pictures (as I was). In Sports car mode too many end up grainy, poor color, etc.
    - macro - works pretty well although item has to be adequately near center of picture - couldn't necessarily get it to focus where I wanted it to focus.
    - did project underwater but lake was cloudy so can't comment on underwater setting color
    - isn't great for low dizzy action but does great in bright light
    - using flash for fill (forced glare mode) on bright days was a bit of a disaster - the flash was so bright even at 7' or so away that pictures look figmental. Unless I can figure out a way to turn flash down I won't be able to use it for fill. It does seem to do a decent job in darker touch off settings as flash (or does what you expect a small camera flash to do but at least correctly exposes necessary/centered subject).
    - movies - what you'd expect
    - I did buy an extra battery (based on other reviews) but didn't end up needing it on any one day notwithstanding a fair amount of shooting and movie taking and reviewing pictures each day.

Good camera for alfresco wet activities - and children who drop things. Spend a little time with the manual and camera and you will put your shots immeasurably - camera CAN take good pictures but won't necessarily without a little help.

The camera is "adorable" and my kids love the way the hand strap can be put on any of the 4 corners. You can't use a neck strap without buying another especially corner thingie to hang it from. Clever of Canon. I like that the tightener on the handstrap can be toughened to open the tight latch on the battery compartment.

    Not quality the money
I would purchase a dissimilar camera. I went with Canon because they are THE camera people. However, the camera started failing ere long after I purchased it. It started getting these "lense error" messages and at first I thought nothing of it. Over time, it got more and more ordinary. The battery life ids horrible, I went through two fully charged battery in about a day. I am not saying Canon is bad, justified this specific camera.
    Canon D-10
I purchased the Canon D-10 as my first underwater digital camera. I was gratified with the pictures overall. Had no problem using it but found features somewhat cumbersome.

I have read many reviews about the dreaded "Lens transgression- re-start camera." I felt very lucky because the camera made it through my whole trip to Cozumel without a glitch. Once I came internal though, that message started to pop up. At first I could charge a battery completely and replace the one inside the camera and the disturbed would resolve.

As of today, the Lens Error message came on and changing the battery did nothing. I am so let down. I guess my little blue camera has succumbed to the problem Canon says they don't have

Making my friends and family green-eyed!
I got this camera for Christmas after drooling over it for a year or so. The last conditions I had a point and shoot I was 16 and it had film in it. I needed something to take where I didn't dare take my SLR but I wasn't game to suffer in the picture quality department. I've taken this camera everywhere. I can give it to my students to take pictures with and not plague about them dropping it or spilling something on it (though I make sure they wear the wrist strap). If I'd written this study just after Christmas it would have been positive but having used it extensively on vacation, in tide pools, on hikes and in the jackpot I'd very highly recommend it. At first I was irritated by some of the auto settings (it tries to make each scene agency gray, as far as density/exposure). However, when I played around with the Program mode I was able to put in order all of the little things that I was used to having control over in my SLR, not as precisely but sufficiently for a point and snuff out. Figuring that out, I realized I could also use some of those things (exposure and white balance and manual focus among others) when shooting video. I've had a marvellous time shooting underwater video of minnows, trout, salamanders and friends. The Macro countenance is good but sometimes it rebels when the flowers wiggle in the breeze, I found placing my steady hand next to the bloom and focusing on that works for a quick shot. Otherwise I use the Manual Focus which lets you get pretty skinflinty, 2in away... The pictures are of lovely quality, the auto white balance is godly enough on most occasions. However, as with any other camera I find it's best to choose a light situation for the camera otherwise it tries to prosper yellow sandstone white as if there were Tungsten light and that looks gross. The underwater settings are titanic. I've used them to create vivid color when the color isn't working in other situations too. I was a color corrector at a big photography lab for years and I recollect that color can make or break a shot. I also know it's better to not have to make too many changes after the event. I've been pleased with the accuracy of color and density and can often send pictures to print with no color corrigendum requested. Something I don't dare to do with my SLR. On the other hand, I was recently taking a picture of a purple delphinium and everything was a exquisite color except the flower which the camera insisted on making a weird sapphire blue that it invented. The camera is a small heavy for a cocktail purse or most ladies clothing pockets but otherwise it's fine. The zoom is sound but definitely only in comparison to point and shoot cameras. I wouldn't take this on a bird watching trip as a substitute for an SLR camera though it does do more wisely than other point and shoots in this department. It takes a nice landscape though not as wide angle as I'm Euphemistic pre-owned to with my SLR. It also takes lovely arm-out self-portraits. The self-timer is fun to play with, you can set the custom timer for a 1-30 support delay and have it take 1-10 shots. It's perfect for a silly picture series, family picture, you riding your horse over a jump... all sorts of things. It also takes good bonny dark shots, if you hold steady it can usually do a good job for you. The 3200 setting helps, but it isn't most often necessary. It's a great tool and the more I play with it the more I discover. The pictures I've taken impress my m and friends because it's an awesome camera I've learned to use well. They're all jealous I can drop, submerge, nearly transfix my camera, hand it to cookie dough covered second graders and then wash it off with a rarely soap and water. Good to go again. A couple of friends who are in the market for a new camera are seriously making allowance for it. You're going to like this camera and you won't regret having bought it.

    Flawless camera!
This is the newer canon that I have owened the first was the SD 1200 and was lost on vacation so I bought the SD 1300 and am very happy with it.
    Very Thrilled
This camera is awsome, it takes such pure pics Above and Below water. expecually with the water mode on, even at 120 feet the pics were consummate, but the video was amazing under water, very clear and great sound.. I don't think you can get any better with a aphoristic camera
Feels crammed and takes great pics!
Bought the SD1300 specifically to have a tight-fisted camera while traveling across the country following Route 66! (I have a Canon S5IS which I took to Germany and Italy, but found it cumbersome to carry daily.) THIS camera takes exceptional pictures and video, is accessible to carry and the battery lasts for DAYS before needing a charge. On a week trip to Maryland I did find the VIDEOS I launching run at full zoom were blurry, but I didn't notice it until I downloaded them to view on my computer. Only for that reason did I not give it 5 stars. Full zoom PICTURES are choice. I love using the SD Card to directly download pictures (but then, that's a positive point of my computer). I did acquiring an extra 4gb SD card but have not had to use it yet. (I have over 600 pictures and probably 40 minutes of video on the first one.) I do put purchasing a camera case of some sort for protection. I found one at Target which is just a padded fabric type, and it prevents the camera from getting scratched up in my purse but doesn't take up much room. I do put the strap over my wrist while shooting because it is so under age you can drop it easily. Buying from Amazon.com allows me to purchase a really GREAT outcome saving the tax I would pay at a retailer, and it ships for FREE. It's well worth the price, and I see it's even dropped $10 from the July 2 bonus. Pick your favorite color and buy it if you're looking for a small, convenient camera that takes superb pics at a reasonable price.
    Delicate camera!!
I have owned several Canon ELF cameras. I like the power knob layout and the menus are similar to my other Canon cameras. I don't like carrying around a large camera and am game to sacrifice some features and functionality for convenience. However, I don't feel like I'm giving up much as this camera takes faithful pictures!
    Extreme but beauty flaws
I took this camera to my over-America approach trip. The camera saw pretty hard conditions - 99 degrees of heat, reducing into sand, 3000 pictures over 3 weeks. It just went on-off all the time, I put a weight of a full year of use onto it over 3 weeks.

Works bad. Amazing photos, it is easy to use, automatic regimes like macro work illustrious. Even through car windows on a speed of 70mph, it takes pictures like standing on a place. You could never tell they are made from a car badger. Brilliant photos, great camera.

1 minus. Beauty flaws come up fast. It is easy to scratch it and after 3 weeks of use, it looked rubbish. Like a 3 year old camera. I have never seen this before. So if you are interested in aesthetics, buy some other camera. If you crave to have awesome, truly brilliant pictures from a small and compact camera, buy this one. Photos informed it is the best you could buy, if you like to hang out and show your fancy equipment in a big crowd, this camera is not looking ornamented over longer period of time.
