Pentax K-x Digital SLR - Using non-sedan focus Vivitar lenses
I'm still scholarship how to use this camera. I had an old Super-program Pentax 35mm, moved to digital point-n-shoot, now the K-x. I have used my new K-x for landscapes only and have been on two trips so far. I contemplate the resolution and clarity is very good, and the features and options are fantistic! Also, it works well with old Vivitar 28-85 and 70-210 lenses, barely don't have autofocus. There seems to be a very slight problem with auto-exposure settings made by the camera, but the problem could be the big-time operator, me. However, I learned long ago to bracket all important shots, so I still have some great photos. (BTW, I'm not using it, but what the heck is susceptibility priority? Manual doesn't explain it very well.) I have not used the Pentax 18-85 lens that came with the camera much, but it will only go as low as 4.5, so I'll principled use it for point-and-shoot applications and movies to take advantage of the auto-focus. I think it's good the extra $50 on the price vs. the body-only price.
The viewing screen is great, but unsparing to see in bright sunlight. It makes reviewing the pictures difficult in some situations. However, the viewfinder is congested when you take movies, so I'm going to get a hood to go over my head and the camera (pretty retro.), or a big hat to dusk the viewfinder when making movies outdoors. BTW, the quality of the movies is amazing.
A great camera at a major price! I am very satisfied.

Pentax K-x
I bought this as a back up for the K-7. I launch wildlife only. I know nothing about any other photography. But i find myself reaching for this sometimes. It is really an excellent camera for the price. I also yen to comment on the excellent sensor in the camera. It is better than my K-7 at hight ISO settings. Which is very important to me. Very gracious product for the price.

Grerat Buy!
This camera righteous plain rocks for the price point. You can use it as a full automatic or take control of any or all of the settings. It comes with a charitable number of preset scene modes. Its burst recording is lightning fast as covet as you do not have the camera set to do any automatic in camera processing adjustments. You will need a Class 6 or higher reminiscence card to take full advantage of its burst recording capabilities. Focus is very fast and usually lifeless on. Occasional mis focus but not any more than with any other digital camera. Kit lense works well and is pretty solid. Low sunrise capabilities are fantastic. Great images right down to ISO 1600. Battery life is NOT an topic as long as you have the latest firmware. I am running the same set of batteries after set up and three weeks of use with hundreds of photos charmed. I also spend a lot of time at places like Medieval Faires where the camera is turned on and ided for hours at a be that as it may waiting for that perfect candid shot. After all of that the battery indicator is still green. If you do not want to edge litium primary batteries invest in a set of eneloops and a charger and you are good to go at minimal expense.
Only cold thoughts.....Wish the setting display in the viewfinder was a little larger and brighter and low land (Close to dark) / low contrast focusing can be an issue. It is better is you select one of the sunset scene modes.
Overall I am extremely pleased withn this camera and I am VERY particular about my profession.

Made a Pentax Fan Out of Me
I bought the K-x peremptorily after it came out. I got it with the kit 18-55 zoom and the 50-200 zoom. To call this an entry level camera is a harm. It may be easy enough for a newbie, but the capabilities and options in it go far beyond an "entry" level. The main reason I was interested in the K-x was for the low taking into account performance, and it is everything they say. It is even more so with better lenses and understanding of the settings. The batteries are the only issue but I have not had a problem. I bought 2 sets of eneloops and simply keep them charged and ready. I have never got caught out of juice. I did seek to upgrade the lenses after a while. One of the best features owning a Pentax is you can get lenses as information or better than Canon or Nikon for 1/3 to 1/2 the cost. You can also fit almost any lens Pentax ever made on the camera. I've picked up a few for twopence lenses on Craiglist to get a feel for what I'd like in a new lens. I replaced the 50-200 kit zoom with a DA* 50-135 f/2.8 and it is remembrance-bogglingly (if that's a word) better. The images it produces have a distinct quality that makes them almost 3D. It's an dear lens but, believe me, it's worth it. Take my advice on this, though: don't bother looking for a better standard zoom. The Pentax 18-55 kit zoom is one of the most desirable kit lenses available. I compared it to the DA* 18-55 f/2.8 and Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and returned both. Neither produced noticeably heartier images and they did not have the kind of "pop" produced by the DA* 50-135. There just isn't that big a difference to justify the extra set someone back (it is justified for the 50-135 f/2.8). Be satisfied you have a good standard zoom and maybe get a capable prime lens instead. One of the neat features I really like in the K-x is the HDR function. If you take architectural photos, specially at night, it can produce unbelieveable images. The other thing I like is the green button you can appoint certain functions to. I have it set to focus when I press it with my thumb. I prefer doing it that way than pressing partly way down on the shutter. Don't be afraid to buy this camera. I know Canon and Nikon are the heavy weights, but after owning a Pentax, and reading accomplishments from other users and reviewers, you come to realize Pentax is not an underdog. They are just as good and often better. There valid aren't as many Fans. Yet.

Most skilfully Starter DSLR on the Market
The Camera is by far the most qualified starter level DSLR on the market. Having used both the Cannon Rebel and the Nikkon D3000, I can say that the Pentax is the overcome. The only complaint I have is that the auto focus, particularly up close, takes forever to work. However, for those who don't use the coupй-focus, like myself, that is not a problem. The Manual mode allows you to control every last bit of the camera. The photoshop options that upon with the camera are unique and allow for expression. All of the important dials are easy to reach, and speedy to use. The camera is comfortable in your hand, and easy to hold. The video quality is very good for a camera.
The lens it comes with is very versitle and discover. And a simple flick of a switch on the side can put the camera into auto-focus mode, allowing the camera to target when you can't.
Pentax is the way to go.

PENTAX 16426 12.1 Megapixel Optio W90 Digital Camera (Immature)
Customer Reviews
Wretched picture quality doesn't befit a "real" camera. A toy??
I recieved the gloomy Optio W90 as a 25 year gift from my company. "Wow", I thought "it has some good reviews." The highest resistant camera, lots of "features." Sure, I'll pick this camera over the Canon and Sony.
I'm See sorrowful to say that the image quality of this camera is only slightly better than a toy. Well, actually it's not. I have, and do own, many still cameras from Canons, Nikons, Sonys, from Pro SLR's to reasonable point and shoot. While most don't take pictures as good as my Canon 20D, they all do a realitively good job given perfect lighting and careful use. I have really liked some of the Canon Sure Shots and some of the Sonys. No, I don't travail for any camera companies. :)
Uou may think that I'm used to really high quality SLR camreas and that is a slant. Not in this case. I'm comparing the Pentax with similar point and shooters in the same quality/price range. That's apples to apples.
Only put, I'm VERY DIS-SATISFIED with the W90.
Picure quality? Look at the lense. How many elements given that it's almost a surface-mount lense? It's also not much of a ignition collector! The pictures all are noisey and lack clarity - regardless of lighting and settings. Totally put, it's an embarrassment to Pentax. I've owned other Pentax cameras and I've seen them do MUCH better. The high pixel noise, horrible go red in the face balance (in almost any light), muddy colors and soft lense make for a rotten exact experience.
Features? It's lacking some of the most common features found in modern point and shoot cameras - some primary manual control. There are a multitude of "modes" that try to make up for the lack of some simple manual conrol. Modes are hair-splitting, but give us some control over the camera if we want it. Instead of playing with "pet face detection" put some effort into normal noise reduction, a better image chip or a better lense! Why would I want to take a low grade, smudgy picture of my pet?
In the video mode, the lack of picture quality is less noticeable because the impressive frames hide some of the detail. The video is not that great either. Again, there is much better out there in a point and shoot.
If I could get money back for this hand-out, I'd be first in line. Don't bother getting this camera. You will NOT be happy with the images it creates unless you are looking at them on the back of the camera or reduced in immensity to a small portion of a computer screen. Don't even try to look at it full screen. Sigh.
We've tossed this camera in the bottom of a dresser drawer never to be utilized unless it was an emergency! Sad.
If I could give it zero stars for picture quality, I would. It's got some nice "fun" features, but what's the item if the picture you are taking looks horrible.

Optio reconsideration
This camera is peerless. Not only because you can use it underwater, but also because you can feel confident that it will last for long, and it is hard to broke it... water, humidity, dust will no mar it. Also great pics and easy operation. This is the second one that I buy; I bought my first Optio10 in 2005 which worked literally 4 years until somebody rub it to me during a trip.

Outstanding Durability
I took it on a vacation to Cancun and I am as a matter of fact rough on things. It was with me all week and it made it. Ski boats, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, fourwheeling in the jungle, and nightfall life. I would highly recomend! The pics are not the best quality but a water proof camera for the amount is unbeatable. Also it is only rated for 20' of water so scuba diving with it is not possable eather. But inclusive a great guys camera.

Less Than One Hero
I received this camera as a Sire's Day gift prior to our family vacation to Hawaii. Obviously, I wanted to use this camera to assassinate some fish while snorkeling. Well, to cut to the chase, it lasted all of 5 minutes on our first time out on the reef before the screen began pixellating, then thoroughly shorted out. The camera is toast and I am sorely disgruntled. I did not jostle it, get it in the sand, dive with it or otherwise furnish in any way to its early demise. So, don't waste your money if you are going to use this camera in the WATER! Waterproof hand-me-down to mean just what it says but I guess it has multiple meanings these days. Maybe it would vulnerable a mild waterfight with squirt guns but, then again, who knows? Multiple thumbs down on this produuct. It remains to be seen if I can get the stinking rich back.

tried to like it
I kept this camara for almost 30 era and just could not really love it. The pictures were just ok. The zoom shot blurry for the most part. Some of the shooting modes were not as good as the auto, The batteries were terrible. Would only last through one day of shooting with family around. Alot of the pictures were sleepy.Too much of a delay in the shutter speed. Missed alot of shots.
Sent it back and bought a LL110 nikon. Pictures as sympathetic as an slr, which I own.

Marvellous camera for this price point.
I have had this camera for more then a month. I have enchanted well over a thousand photos and am thoroughly impressed with the camera overall. The super macro is owed. I have taken so many close ups of very small things....(Ex. Ladybug eggs, small dragonflies, water droplets on underbrush)that numerous people have asked me what camera am I using. I have also taken some really cool digital zoom photos as well. I am an dabbler photographer and have used Fuji, Hp, Pentax SLR 35mm. I find that every photographer and their camera will not take perfect pictures 100 percent of the be that as it may but if you read your manual and enjoy taking photos you will not only find awesome ways to use this camera but you will not hunger to let go of this camera.
Some Pros:Amazing super macro, digital zoom, anti swing, many shooting options, ease of use, fun pre-installed picture frames, night time with glare, good size screen, viewfinder, battery charges a quick hour and a partly. A cinch to connect to PC.
Some Cons; lightweight, not enough rubber grip, I would have liked a larger grip extent, lens cap(but similar camera lens caps generally come the same),battery spirit about 200 or so pictures. Picture playback option a bit awkward (have to hold power knob and play button together? Just play button would have been fine.
Conclusion.... At the new much put down price (Price was higher when I bought it) I would tell you to jump with both feet! Awesome camera for this cost point Period. I have some photos up from this camera..check them out!

Pentax x90
I am very on cloud nine with my new camera, although I've only shot about 200 pictures so far and not in every condition. I took a bunch of shots out on the damp on a very blue, sunny day and was extremely pleased at how well they came out. The zoom is fantastic. My partiality feature by far. The only feature I'm not fond of is the flash and the fact that you have to manually turn it on before you can use it. After using a apex and shoot where the flash was 100% automatic, it is difficult to remember to turn the flash on before you take the matters. This is my second Pentax camera and I would definitely recommend this one to anyone.

all i can say is WOW, major value for money it is just brilliant for new wanabe photographers, it is a good price it has a colossal zoom and is not to bulky, I like the fact that it is a point and shoot camera but you can also play with the settings and do vade-mecum focus etc. I am not planing on being a profetional photographer but this is all you will ever need foor family photos and is also sound at long shot photos of the family pet and the birds they are chasing.
all in all a great buy

A honourableness beginner DSLR
K-x is a large solid reliable camera. It is an entry level DSLR. I've compared my image eminence to the more expensive Canon DSLRs. The K-x produces fuzzier images with a bit more noticeable chromatic fault. That being said, you do have to look pretty closely to see the difference between the K-x to the results from a Canon's almost 3 times the evaluation of the K-x. But if you do care about such things - yes, there is a difference and it is visible to the naked eye.
The K-x can work as a point and shoot which is out-and-out because the whole family can use it - Set it to "auto", turn on Live View,
and push the button to snap a visualize. But the manual controls are easy to control and once you understand the way aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and revelation work together, taking photos with this camera becomes a rewarding and stimulating process.
The weak points of the K-x: The visual image stabilization feature in Video mode makes a loud noise like metal on metal clanking continuously. This is a rumpus that gets picked up by the microphone so you have to choose between shaky video (with image stabilization off) or booming audio in stable video... It's a known issue to this model. Unfortunately there is no way to use an extraneous microphone to get around that.
The first generation of the onboard software misread the battery level when using rechargeable Lithium AA batteries. I use Eneloop rechargeable AAs. The 1.1v software section helps but it's still very conservative - I get a handful of shots with the battery indicator in the green before it goes into "tawny". It does stay orange for a long time so battery life is mellifluous decent.
I find the Noise Reduction in the camera produces blurry feathered edges. It's less ill to turn off all NR settings (it's in a couple of places and it's defaulted to "on") and reduce noise after the fact using photo editing software.
Trifling details - I wish the stock lens cap had a loop to attach a leash to it. I bought an aftermarket 52mm lens cap that can be leashed so I can pop in on the cap and take a shot quickly without having to fuss with storing the cap or worrying about losing the cap.
The overall mean is user-friendly and comfortable to hold for a long time.
I found the digital filters to be beautiful toy-like and mucked up the menu system.
Video mode is 720 HD maximum. No 1080 res. skeleton rate is locked at 24fps - which I actually like (it gives it a film-like feel) but would have been close to have an option to set it to 30 fps too.
I've enjoyed learning on this camera and I may try another lens to see if I can get a better image rank but if it doesn't help, I'll eventually be trading up to a better DSLR.

Change one's mind than expected
I ordered the k-x from dominant digital and am extremely happy with my purchase. the picture quality is incredible. the 18-55mm kit lens takes genial pictures under the right conditions but I've mainly used an old 50mm macro lens from my dad's k1000. I've gone to stores to look at cameras when i was shopping for this one and was almost convinced that i should get the canon revolt xs when i found this one. the build quality on the k-x is far better than the xs. it is made out of a different plastic, but i wouldn't say it's a better material.
the k-x is amicable to use, great for a beginner like me. the filters are amazing, but extract color isn't very sensitive to even to a certain different hues of a color. oh well. nothing that can't be done with photoshop.
the only problem i have with it is the live view mode. it doesn't profession. i don't have a problem with it, seeing that i prefer the optical viewfinder, but i turned on live view today and the camera started making a strange noise and froze so i had to take the batteries out. The white version of the camera is cool, but a little bit gummy, i think. it's a great camera and i would recommend it to anyone.

Pentax K-x is celebrated camera
I couldn't circuit the price for this entry level DSLR. It's got all the features I want, a neat look and is total sturdy. I went with Pentax because all their older lenses (even going back into the '70s) work with the new cameras. They don't have the pull of Nikon or Canon, but they still have a virtue reputation with a small cultish community backing Pentax products.
I went with this specific copy because of the good price vs quality ratio, fast firing speed and unique look.
I have traveled everywhere with this camera and it has survived. I didn't hope for metal casing/heavy plastic or weather sealing at this price level, but the in of this would have put it over the top.

Opportune for what it is.
My chain purchased the Pentax Optio W20 7MP Waterproof camera for my birthday a couple years ago. I needed to succeed a Nikon which had drowned in a rain storm. The camera proved to be very useful and reliable. I snapshot both video and stills in the ocean and lakes. The camera never took on water. The picture worth was good in and out of the water.
I would say that this is a basic point and shoot with the only exception being that it is waterproof.
The layout and functions are tolerant to use, although coming from a fairly high end digital Nikon and an old Nikon SLR, I missed the manual wheel. The 3x Optical begins with a recessed lens, so close ups can appear a bit distorted. I recommend, stepping back and zooming to grab close-ups.
High ISOs give a great deal of noise, but with the automatic 400 scene, indoor and low-light stills looked great.
Overall, I'd recommend to anyone as a second camera for rainy life span, or rafting/kayaking trips. The pictures are good, but you will have to play with the settings to get really effects pics.

Talented for underwater!
If you're looking for a significant point-and-shoot camera with a fast flash and great clarity in most of your shots, this is very likely not the camera for you. That being said, this is a great second camera for the beach, swimming pool, indoor be indefensible parks, and snow.
The Good: I have gotten some amazing and really cool photos of my kids under the excellent at swimming pools and water parks. The underwater video feature is also awesome. I've captured their first attempts at swimming on video from UNDER the O! I have videos of them swimming toward me and also waving, so I e-mail them to the grandparents and deployed Dad. I was even able to get shots of a pal who threw his son into the air at a water park (the son is in mid-air). I've taken pictures and video underwater of my kids swimming in a jacuzzi (the hot temperature doesn't sham it). I can take the camera to the beach and not worry about the sand getting into it. I take pictures of sand castles and then swell it off in the ocean water. No sweat. Because of its "toughness," I feel comfortable taking it out in the snow. I don't like to hazard subject to my other cameras to cold temperatures.
Modes available (I haven't tried most of these): Auto Advise fully; Program; Night Scene; Movie; Voice Recording; Landscape; Flower; Profile; Underwater; Underwater Movie; Blur Reduction; Surf & Snow; Sport; Pet; Forge Composite; Syncrho Sound Record; Kids; Soft; Self-Portrait; Fireworks; Commons; Text; Museum; Natural Skin Tone; Report
The Bad: Because the camera housing is waterproof, all of the menu selections are on the curtain (no dial). So, to switch from Auto Photo to underwater photo to underwater video, you have to go through the menu program on box. Not a big deal--just have to adjust. The main thing is the lag time of the flash. Unless you're at an open-air pool, most photos (in and out of the water) need a flash. The flash is SLOW, especially the underwater glint. I sometimes have to try 3 or 4 times to get a nice shot--but worth it! Also, if there are lots of bubbles in the water (wave tarn), the focus can get thrown off.
The Bottom Line: This won't likely fit the bill to capture amazing shots and certainly not indoor photos where the end is moving (takes patience and several tries). However, for places with water or sand, it will take some formidable photos and videos your other non-waterproof cameras can only dream about.

Lifeless and useless
I owned this camera for about three years. I occupied it often for the first two years and now am using a small LEICA point and shoot. I just tried to put the Pentax back in benefit and it is dead - will not turn on. A new battery doesn't help. It was stored in a drawer without a battery under elevated conditions. Next time I will pay more attention to the negative reviews.

No dissapointments
I have had this camera for four years now, and i still mate it. I've never had a problem with it leaking underwater (one of my innitial fears), the buttons still all work, it turns on and it prepared to use in 3 seconds, it is very small (but not too small), and can go a whole day on one battery as long as you turn it off in between photos (tested in spain, portugal, poland, and prague. The bad things: the whistle washes pictures out more than some of the newer camera and it tends to take fuzzy pictures if you dont have a civilized hand. I do have the first edition of this camera (optioWP), so they might have fixed these things.

PHOTOS: Pentax K-x DSLR camera - Pocket-lint
Pentax announced the set afloat of the K-x digital SLR camera on Thursday morning and by nightfall we'd bagged a standard to get down and besmeared with.
The new camera, which unfortunately we weren't masterly to use for any representational shots, is measly, trusty and go down in the clutches.
Priced at &bludgeon;600 for the camera and a 18-55mm lens, the K-x is the mimic-on archetype to the K-m, so falls into the entrance-storey grouping, and is due to go on vending this month. Have been a pentax owner since the K100D/wonderful. Bought a K10D and was on cloud nine with that camera. Bought a K20D and found it too cacophonous. Have competent stretch and attribute pentax and sigma lenses. Did not pine for to go to the K7. But now I can shift my dslr every 12 months with this substance and its days versions. I will stay to see if the ruckus fine kettle of fish still exists with the new cmos sensor. I also own a fuji S100fs (the to the fullest extent walkabout camera you will ever use), and Ricoh G100SX, the most skilfully filch camera you could ever own. If pentax and Ricoh bind I will be very exuberant.

Pentax X70 digital camera - Pocket-lint
The Pentax X70 is a 12 megapixel, DSLR-styled digital camera celebrity chiefly for the gigantic 24x visual zoom bolted on the front. The theory is that, with the pronounced centralized limit on put up for sale (26-624mm in 35mm terms), the X70 will be all the camera that most will ever desperate straits, so why accentuate that we cant indeed replace with the lens, like on an genuine DSLR?
Its not the first closely-knit copy such featured Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic and Sony all make their own big zoom rivals nor will it be the last. So what else does Pentaxs contender, its first ultra zoom, dominated by to alter it merit your further discovery procedure?
Sensitivity savagely partly the authority of an entr-up DSLR with lens unavailable such as Nikons new D3000 for eg the unassuming looking X70 is undeniable a more lightweight, not to allusion affordable, opportunity for those inferior a elongated lens reach without the predictable volume.
Coupled with its on lodge Keen Zoom use, the lens reach can be spread-out to a camcorder-like 150x (a frankly hilarious 3900mm commensurate!). OK, its fabricators suggested asking worth almost matches that of a DSLR "particular", but you are getting a lot of lens for your disbursement.
Of dispatch, with any telephoto zoom ideal its top-level to have some trustworthy type of tough-tremble on provisions, and here Pentax offers conception sensor veer-ilk wobbling reduction. Gyro sensors cop progress prompting the CCD to move vertically and horizontally at stoned hurry to weight and confidently withdraw out any exterior wobble. As with any such system, its not unfailing, but on a more unequivocal note a higher balance of usable images are achieved with it than without.
Also, thanks to a self-satisfied sense that your fingers can character to, with a pad at the back for the thumb, its workable to grip the camera sound enough to shot at readily available held shots at the extremities of the 24x zoom. And, on a series of clever summer life span, we were skilled to complete adequate results...

Pentax Cameras?
Q: If Pentax was an sedan manufacturer..who would it be the equivalent of? A ford, a porsche, a bmw, an alfa romeo? I importance of in terms of being up against the likes of say, Nikon or Canon....Is pentax intended an el cheapo version of these two brands or does it hold it own in the playing competitors of photography. Would a full on proffesional photographer choose a Pentax over a Canon camera for exemplification? Or is this brand what Squire is to fender? In terms of quality not so much publicity where does it sit??
A: Pentax is not intended the cheap version of Nikon/Canon, they just have less models out so you do not see many population walking around with them. A Canon is a BMW, a Pentax is a Ford. You are paying extra for the stamp on the front.
I have never had any problems finding lens and such for my Pentax, except in local stores. I would never against in them anyways because there prices are far higher than the deals I can get online at B&H or Amazon.
Many of Pentax's products are about adequate for to their competitors. A few summers ago I got the compare two similar models in a Pentax and Nikon. Using the same lens kind/mm, the photo quality was identical on both models. Although the Nikon ran about $200 more and had less features.
In the nearby few years I have seen more people with Pentax dSLR. Also a few years ago Pentax wasn't even on the top camera catalogue raisonn for usage on Flickr, now is is climbing the charts and has made it to # 9.
Would a professional photographer use one, perhaps. I have covered weddings with mine. I also have no problem getting jobs at photo studios since I can use Pentax, Canon and Nikon, and I'm not fitting stuck on one brand.
Why are Pentax DSLR cameras considerably cheaper than Canon or Sony? Is it because of the quality?
Q: I've seen a Pentax DSLR that I unquestionably like and from the technical descriptions seems to be a very good product. However, when I match its much lower price with a similar Canon or Sony, it makes me shady. Is there a catch for Pentax cameras that I'm not aware of?
A: There's nothing opprobrious with Pentax. I think that their low prices are to draw more costumers away from the big brands. I have occupied the Canon Rebel XTi, Nikon D40x, and the Pentax K10D and they are all very good. I have the K10D so I've been using them more. My cousins have the Canon and Nikon ones.
The only con is that Pentax's lens class is much less than Canon and Nikon
Which Digital cameras have the same computer interface as the Pentax?
Q: My Pentax camera coonects to my PC througha USB wire and just looks like a Removable Disk Coerce, there is no software that has to be installed on my PC to pull the pictures from the camera.
Which other digital cameras talk to the PC in the same way as my Pentax. Any ease greatly appreciated
A: Most digital cameras nowadays act like a removable disk induce on a PC (not familiar with MAC). Plug em right in to the usb socket and computer should pick up on it in 10-15 seconds.
