pro/con
Pro: High-minded price for the camera. The picture quality is very good. Recovery is quick. Functions and options are prolific. Tech support was helpful.
Con: The image stabilization doesn't seem very effective. Camera set up was a suffering since I run a Mac. Could not get the install menu right so had lost the manual and had to order one. The absolutely worst spotlight of the camera, IMHO, is the lack of a view finder. Trying to focus and compose a illustrate in sunlight is very difficult.
Conc.: Overall it's a good camera and when I can actually shade the view concealment, shoots excellent pictures. The zoom is wonderful but at full Optical needs a tripod or a very well grounded hold-held position. I do not recommend trying to shoot from a boat in rough seas or river rapids.

Thick, poor low light performance
I bought this camera at Costco as an upgrade for my regarding and shoot camera (Fujifilm F72Exr), with main goal to take pictures of my kids, and do some nature photography. I tried it many times in separate conditions, and was not satisfied by its performance. I returned it after two weeks or so.
Cons:
- Poor low light appearance (by low light here I mean indoor photography with normal room lighting, without using instant). Very noisy at high ISO (800 and more)
- Slow to focus and has a significant shutter lag. My kids run/constitutional away before it takes a picture.
- Image stabilization is ineffective with a long zoom (I hypothesize more than x10).
- No viewfinder one might expect on wanna-be-SLR camera.
Pros:
- Beautiful colors (providing that there is enough lighting)
- Battery-operated life is OK (enough for a day of shooting)
- Easy to use, controls are located conveniently
Conclusion: Get an SLR for taking pictures of kids in a low shine :-) Or no more than x12 zoom camera for trips (a compact zoom, like Panasonic ZS-series or Fujifilm F-series). x30 zoom is unavailing without a tripod.

Grand Little Camera; Great Value
What I was looking for:
-- More forward looking than a point-and-shoot, but not as complex as a DSLR
-- Well-made
-- Decent, basic video capability
-- Smug to hold and manipulate
-- High level zoom
-- Price: Under $300
What's Great About It:
-- 2MB of internal honour in addition to a card slot. I find that saving images to internal memory is much faster than extenuating to a card. Camera also has functionality for transferring photos and video from internal memory to a calling-card inside the camera.
-- Appears to be very well-made. Although the casing is made of plastic, the camera looks and feels very up. My impression is that this camera will last a long time.
-- Weight: A bit heavier than a point-and-shoot, but alight enough that I can easily carry it with me most places. Because of it's size, it doesn't fit in a pocket, but it does fit in a small persist-on or large purse.
-- Consistent photo quality. I'm consistently getting excellent alfresco photos and very good indoor photos.
-- The 30x optical zoom works great. I'm getting very shiny outdoor pictures at full zoom. Indoor zoomed pictures are slightly grainy, but that's genuine of many cameras in this price range.
-- Option of varying the resolution from 3MP to 12MP. I rarely need 12MP, so by using a bring resolution, I get many more images before having to transfer them to a card or computer.
-- Video: Exactly what I was looking for. Enormous for capturing events with family and friends. Includes decent audio that can optionally be turned off. With audio turned off, you can zoom while filming.
-- Diminished, light-weight Li-Ion battery. I'm getting about 300 photos and 10-15 minutes of video per name. Battery recharges in about 2 hours. I just keep two additional batteries on hand, and I'm good to go in mignonne much any situation. (I found the best prices for extra batteries here on Amazon.)
-- Price: Fast value for the price. I got it on sale at a big-box store; worth every penny.
-- Very good macro and wonderful macro. After a bit of a learning curve, I'm now consistently getting great macro and super-macro pictures.
-- Filters: These are more fun than I expected. I didn't propose b assess I'd use them at all, but I do. The "coloring book" filter is great for making personalized coloring books for the dwell on in my life.
-- Includes an option to add several seconds of audio to still pictures. Very handy for quick metaphors of pictures so you don't forget later.
-- Built-in Flash: I like the fact that it the flash never pops-up unconsciously. It will fire automatically in certain modes, but if you don't want the flash at all (and I often don't), you just leave the flash closed.
Could be Gamester, but Do-Able:
-- Size: From an ergonomic standpoint, I wish it were a little bit larger. Initially, my hands felt crowded when using the camera, but I got used to the size after about a month.
-- Menu-based controls. In terms of both ease of use and ergonomics, I strongly prefer buttons and dials. Buttons and dials are easier for me than prevailing through menus. Additionally, the control (a combination button/dial) that is used to access the menu is tolerably small and almost flush to the back of the camera. I have average-size hands, and it took me awhile before I was adequate with the menu conroller. I imagine this would be even more challenging for someone with larger hands.
I initially planned to arrival the camera because of the ergonomic issues. But I only found a couple of other cameras in my price range that were more comfortable ergonomically, and both of those had too many other negatives. I've since found a more at ease way to hold the Olympus and am gradually getting used to the menus. The camera does such good job in van mode that I often just leave it there and don't bother with other options.
-- No view finder: I wish it had one, but that is becoming less of an efflux the more I use the camera.
-- User Guide: Entirely digital. If you want hardcopy, you have to print the 70+ pages yourself. The vade-mecum is pretty good, but I'd like to see a little more detail in some areas.
-- Focusing: It took me awhile to build out how the camera focuses. But now that I've gotten through the learning curve, I'm consistently getting very good pictures.
-- Camera cannot be hand-me-down right out of the box. It must first be initialized, a process that requires connecting the camera to a computer. At least for me, the initialization process was not very perceptive.
-- Error messages: This is probably the camera's weakest point for me. If I'm changing settings, I sometimes get an slip-up message saying I can't choose a particular option because it conflicts with another setting already in place, but it doesn't word me which one. The user guide doesn't have a chart or summary explaining this, either. So I'm left to either trial-and-erroneously or digging through the lengthy manual to determine which settings work with each other and which do not.
Bottom Line:
I wanted a camera that was between a root point-and-shoot and a DSLR and had basic video capability. I also had a limited budget. This camera panic the bill.

Necessitous Image Quality, Inconsistent Exposure, Overpriced
I purchased this camera as replacement for my Olympus 770SW-- which by the way, performed very well. The Stylus Bruiser 8010, however, produces inferior photos. Even when using the flash indoors, the resulting photos incline to come out underexposed-- even after using the exposure compensation. I took five photos on a tripod with the same alloy with both fill flash on and with auto flash on. In all instances the flash fired but the exposure for the photos mixed. There obivously is a pre-flash built in the camera and this may be causing the camera to misread/miscalculate laying open. Also, indoors under incandescent lighting, if you use auto White Balance any white has a blue stain. If you use the incandescent setting for WB, EVERYTHING COMES OUT AN UNNATURAL BLUE.
It seems that the trend for camera companies is to add awe-inspiring features, gimmicks, etc. aimed at the novice photographer rather than focusing on actual image distinction.

Give it a predictability...
When I first bought this I almost right away returned it to the store. I had many complaints that have already been posted here. Slow speed, grainy photos.... I took this out on a three week release to the brooks range and shot about 400 pictures with it and about 20 vids. The more I shot with it the ameliorate my pictures got. I will admit it does take some getting use to and knowing what setting to use in each photo. The Auto environs work so so. And the Auto focus is not the fastest either. But one thing to keep in mind is this is a ruggedized piece of materiel which means there is going to be extreme sacrifices at one end of the spectrum to gain on the other. In the end I turned out to be happy with this camera.

Don't buy this camera
I am very disheartened in this camera. Using it's features is awkward. It doesn't work in cold weather, the freestyle goes dead when it is cold out. I dropped it from 4 feet and the little flap for cabling penurious off so it is no longer weather proof. Picture quality is poor.

Olympus waterproof camera
I have had this camera for almost two years now. The show quality on this camera is horrible. I have never had a camera that has given so many blurry images, especially indoors. Unless you use the manner selector and use a very specific mode for each scenario, you get very poor quality photos. The camera doesn't seem to be masterful to automatically adjust its settings in auto mode.
The waterproof portion did work until one of the seals around the lens came off. I'm not absolutely sure when or how it came off, only that I recently noticed it wasn't there anymore. Haven't looked into getting it repaired as I am not satisfied with the epitome quality. I am upgrading to the DSC TX-5 instead; it is getting really good reviews all around.
In the camera's excuse, when it does take a sharp photo, using the mode selector, the pictures are good. Video is not bad, but not over the top, in my opinion. I am not a photo guru, so I don't know about all shutter speeds, saturation, etc. I just see a perfect and think it is either bad, good, or great. These photos are good, when they are not blurry. I would guess that about 40% of the photos I take are fuzzy. If the lighting changes, even slightly, while in a scene select mode, the photos come out sleepy. If you can master the scene's mode you may like this camera. I don't have the patience, I want something that auto detects fast and accurately. I have had good luck with other Sonya camera's, and I still wanted a waterproof camera, so I chose the TX-5 as this camera's replacement.
I also am not a fan of XD cards, another saneness for jumping off the Olympus bandwagon. I prefer SD.

come to grief suggestion by amazon
Hello,
I am an old circumstance and happy client of Amazon.
Although this is not a complaint in itself, and believe it's not an error on the part of amazon, I do think it should be intended.
I am very happy with the outcome of my last order, except that I ordered the wrong battery for the camera.
I did this following a advice about adding a battery to my order, which was on the same page when confirming the order for the camera and other items.
I did wanted the accessory battery, it's just that I ordered the wrong model (and in turn the wrong battery stallion) being suggested by the mentioned page. SEE ITEM MODELS BELOW.
I corrected this yesterday, ordering the dyed in the wool battery and charger.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Regards,
enrique

No fair from the seller
This freestyle was faulty when it arrived. It wouldn't accept a charge either in the camera or in an external charger. At $7 it's scarcely worth it to return it -- which is probably what the seller is counting on.

Inexact Battery
I am very discombobulate with the batteries, because I took the kit "Frequently Bought Together", I thought, if Amazon offers the kit: Camera + Covering + Battery, the battery belongs to this camera but NO!!! the battery for this camera is different!! and I bought 3!!!
The battery-operated of this kit is LI-50B and the battery for the Camera Olympus Stylus 7040 is LI-42B.

What a lot ... elite features at a great price.
Could not be happier with the Olympus Stylus 9000 12 MP Digital Camera with 10x Considerable Angle Optical Dual Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Black). With a quotation point of $179, there are plenty of elite features, principally: 12 mega pixels fixedness, a remarkable 10x optical zoom, and wide angle capability. Canon and Kodak have responded with similarly featured cameras at about the same bonus, but offerings from Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm and Panasonic cost as much as $110 more. It should also be noted that these features - 12mp, 10x visual zoom - constitute impressive leaps in point-and-shoot camera sophistication, compared to what was at one's fingertips just three or four years ago.
And this camera is so gorgeous! Sleek black with silver trim, it might be the first looking digital camera I've ever seen. The Stylus 9000's 2.7 inch LCD exhibit is three-tenths of an inch smaller than the 3-incher some of the others have, but the looks of this camera more than compensate.

finest camera I've ever had
I take pix all day every day. I'm a visual performer, photographer, illustrator, blogger.
I've never enjoyed a camera as much as I've enjoyed this one.
For the price, I find the lens eminence to be outstanding, the zoom is sufficient, the macro and super-macro are wonderful tools.
I've tried Canon digital cameras, kodak digital cameras... they merely don't hold a candle to Olympus.
Dropped this camera in the pond yesterday (waterproof is not one of its features) , and am buying a brand name new one today.
Can't live without it.

This is an top-hole camera even though its a point and shoot. It has 12 mega pixels and a good zoom which is one of the reasons i bought this camera. I also bought this camera because it has an in-camera panorama kisser. I later found out that it also does a grant job with up close pictures like flowers and such. it has three shooting settings for it in wrapper you want to get really close like i do: normal, macro, and super-macro. i didn't even recognize it had this feature and once i discovered it i started getting compliments on my photos.

Performs As Advertised
I won't add to the reviews that have already been posted except to say the SP-590 performs as advertised and as expected. My little woman loves it and I'm quite surprised by the image quality. We bought it mostly because new digital cameras, other then dSLRs, seem to be sinking the viewfinder and that is a necessity for us. To be sure, there are plenty of things I don't like about it, but that's why I have a dSLR for myself. :)

Very versitile little digital camera
I have had this camera for about three months now and have had a gamble a accidentally to take photographs in many different situations. Olympus is currently the leader in the ultra-zoom compact digital buy. (I don't like to call these cameras point-and-shoot, because the features are as advanced as many SLR cameras.) In my opinion, this is one of the most versatile compact digital cameras on tap right now, although it does have its drawbacks. Here are the pros and cons of this model:
Pros:
The lens group. The ultra-zoom lens is the main feature of this camera and the reason most people are taking into consideration this model. It has an effective zoom of 26-626mm, which is the largest range of any zoom I have ever used. I don't recognize of any SLR lenses that have such a wide zoom range. Plus the 5x digital zoom increases the effectual focal length to a ridiculous 3130mm. It is generally inadvisable to use digital zoom, however I Euphemistic pre-owned it for a moon shot and got excellent results (see my photo under customer images) so don't fully dismiss this feature. In addition, the lens is relatively light and only extends out 2.5" at maximum expansion. And it does all this with a relatively fast f/2.8.
Controls. This camera has all the controls of a full-featured camera, from fully automated to manual control of just about everything. I won't run down all the different settings, but it has shutter speed ranging from 1/2000 wink to 15 seconds, and ISO from 64 to 6400. It has two macro modes for extreme close-up photography and several modes of coupй-focus as well as full manual focus. This makes it very versatile for both the novice and experienced photographer.
Corporealization Size. 12 megapixels is at the high end of compact digital cameras. The images at full resolution are colossal, large enough to be printed at 11 x 17. I mostly display my images on screen so the advantage for me is that they can be re-sized to rise sharpness and reduce noise. (Pushing the size to 12 megapixels does seem to present more noise in the image.)
Viewfinder. It has a very large 2.7" LCD viewer as well as a true viewfinder (something many firm digitals are doing away with these days).
Menu. The Menu is pretty straightforward, there aren't multiple levels to have to hide through.
Image Quality. The image quality is quite good, particularly at ISO 64 and in the spacious and mid-range of the lens. Sharpness leaves something to be desired, however, and drops off noticeably at the long end of the zoom (see cons).
Ease of use. The camera does not have a fill learning curve, and feels good in the hand. The controls are not all that complicated, especially for an qualified photographer graduating from an earlier model (I am moving up from an Olympus C-5050 Zoom and this camera is a joy to use by resemblance.)
Flash. I am not a fan of most images produced with a built-in flash, however the flash is decent, produces more actual colors than my previous C-5050 and I like the fact that the flash is never engaged unless it is popped up.
New Modes. This camera has some new modes such as Handsomeness Mode and 14 different scene modes. Being an experienced photographer I like to have command of the way the camera shoots, so I probably won't use these much, and can't give an opinion of them except that the Beauty Mode does do a nice job of softening pan wrinkles.
Cons:
Lens sharpness. This zoom lens is a joy to use however the images it produces are not almost as sharp and clear as I would like. Of course when you pay under $400 for the entire camera, there has to be some trade-offs in the optics. This built-in lens is never affluent to rival any of the high-end SLR glass from Canon or Nikon. The lens is not crisply sharp at any convergent length: at the wide end there is noticeable softening of the image around the edges; the lens performs dulcet well in the low to mid-range of the zoom but image quality at the far end of the zoom is equivalent to a cheap telephoto, with totally a bit of chromatic aberration. These imperfections can be compensated for my shooting at the full 12mp and then reducing the image size in Photoshop. Then sharpening must be performed to generate the images look good. You can get some really great shots, just don't expect full polished quality with this lens.
Noise. The noise levels are a lot worse than I would like, beginning at ISO 200. ISO 400 is harmonious poor, and starting at ISO 800 the images are really unacceptable in my opinion. ISO 1600 is unprejudiced terrible, but for some reason the image quality improves at ISO 3200. I had hoped for better low-disclose performance with this camera, so don't buy it if that is your goal or else stick with the flash when shooting indoors.
Quick Menu. Although the menu is greatly improved over my C-5050, the short menu seems to be lacking. I wish more of the controls were easily accessable, particularly exposure recompense +/-. My previous Olympus had a dedicated button for that.
No RAW mode. It really bothers me that camera manufacturers are leaving RAW condition out of the newer cameras. I am sure that the image quality of this camera could be improved if the RAW versions of the photos were convenient. Image processing in a camera is never going to match what you can do with Photoshop. Casual users most of the time skip RAW, however I think they should keep RAW mode available for enthusiasts like myself. This is a high-end camera, it should have RAW way!
Static LCD. The LCD doesn't pivot or move in any way. My old C-5050 had a pivoting LCD and I'm disappointed they didn't retain this kisser. It comes in handy in tight spots.
Movie Mode. It's only standard resolution but the videos look very benevolent so that's not really a con for me.
Conclusions: This is a highly versatile and fun to use camera, particularly the zoom. Although the lack of sharpness in the optics was a disenchantment initially, when the images are re-sized and sharpened they can be quite spectacular. I have impressed my friends and kinsmen with the images I have obtained with this camera, particularly the macro and long shots. (Please see the photos I uploaded for examples; my images all end with my initials, DJS.)
Although these are not professional grade optics or sensor, the SP-590UZ is a great piece of apparatus for the price. It's a take-anywhere-do-anything camera. I'm finding it a pleasure to use and I highly recommend it for all outdoor hobbyist font of shooting, where it excels preferably at ISO 64 or ISO 100, or indoors with a flash. Look elsewhere if your shooing situations are in the first instance indoors and/or low-light situations.
Final note: Olympus came out with an even longer 30x zoom, the [Olympus SP-800UZ 14MP Digital Camera with 30x Inappropriate Angle Dual Image Stabilized Zoom and 3.0 inch LCD]. But they dumbed it down with laying open control being strictly automatic and there is no viewfinder. As opposed to this camera, it's a true point-and-execute.

This camera is keen at doing what it was meant to do: Combine a decent zoom feature in a small-bodied, assistance-held, relatively cheap package.
It is inexpensive enough that I can take it on vacation without worrying too much about breaking it or having it stolen. It takes tremendous photos close-up and pretty darn good ones from a distance. It is not a professional photography sting, OBVIOUSLY, so if you are looking for a professional quality camera, look elsewhere.
However, this is a very nice crossover camera or giving way if you are tired of the snapshot quality of your amateur photos due to limited control of an automatic camera, but don't lust after to spend a thousand bucks on a camera and lenses you only use occasionally.
Pros:
+ One camera does it all on vacation, without having to hector about switching lenses for wildlife photos.
+ Price point is great, when you consider the attribute and convenience.
+ It has a real viewfinder, so when the light is weird, you are not totally dependent on the LCD panel (which is broad and in color BTW).
Cons:
- Batteries die and die and die some more. Automatic lenses eat batteries - it's a fact. However, this thing is a complete battery hog. Even just turning the camera on engages the lense! Why on Earth?!
- You can't turn it on at all without removing the lense cap, not even unprejudiced to view photos in the memory.
- The battery door hinge is right next to the connector for a tripod mount, almost stirring it, so you CAN NOT change the batteries without upsetting your tripod setup. You can't do stop-motion with this thing at all because of this limitation.
My recommendation? Buy it! But also get a large camera case, so you can fit in all the extra batteries you'll need to pack. (I bought the unusual case for this camera and it is way too small.) And DEFINITELY invest in a bunch of rechargeables with a car pony.
I am actually very pleased with the camera, even with its limitations, because of its flexibility and the low price-point. You get a lot of bang for your dough, even if you do have to mess with batteries a lot.

Olympus 850SW Camera Review–Maybe The Color Thing Is Right…
I’m having a hard-boiled interval believing how Olympus can exhort almost three hundred dollars (depending, as always, on where you blow the whistle on buy) for its 850SW camera. It’s enough to obtain me wonderment, in episode, if that whole notion of having options in colors in cameras and the resultant cameras being crap is really exactly.
The Olympus 850SW is an eight megapixel camera with a 3x visual zoom, xD advise fully New Year card compatibility, and is waterproof to ten feet and can na a flop start of five feet.
This is a smal, thin, sunrise camera that you’ll scarcely even take notice of transportation, and the occurrence that it’s got some jolt resistances makes it even more astonishing. But premiere c end on…an eight megapixel camera for three hundred bucks?? I can get a TWELVE for almost partly that! Who in their unerringly uncertain would buy this cutesy-poo camera with less utility and greater payment than a comparable epitome?
There’s no way I can advisable this camera–the thin variance in value and utility is unexceptionally too marked to cope with.

Olympus Stylus 850SW 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Visual Zoom (Reddish pink) Reviews
Sweetie it! Kinda be deficient in two!, This camera is Extraordinary. I praisefully push it to running residents looking for a sharp, eximious camera. The image dignity is affecting, markedly using the “untrustworthy hands” stress, or whatever it is truly called. I’m a guide, so intriguing pictures of my students is stern, because they’re lovely hem clever. But I make do to get appropriate pictures, indoors and out, due about every distinguish interval. The underwater participate is a blare, you get unbelievably perfect pictures, and such a purposeful clout! I’ve entranced it to the bottom of pools to get my students pitching in, how cold-hearted! I’ve also dropped it about a million times, and letting my students use it hasn’t fragmentary it either. Greatly warmly effectively plug. Sedateness colors too! Yellow is in actuality yellowish-brown though.

What is the difference between all of the Olympus Cameras?
Q: I am shopping for a new digital camera and I am so muddled on which one to get! I have narrowed it down to an Olympus Brand, but all of the camera's sound the same.
What is the difference between the FE series and the Stylus series?
Which do you advise?
A: I'm not totally sure, but i think they each have different selections. I myself went with the stylus series. I bought the 850sw during the summer. It's a bit precious, but it's a great camera. It's 8 mega pixels, and its shockproof up to 5 feet, waterproof up to 10 feet, and deep-freeze proof up to(down to?) 14 degrees. I brought mine in the pool almost customary during the summer, and the pictures came out great. The video trait is great too, but rather quiet. I'm guessing it's because they had to waterproof the mic, but when you upload them on the computer, you can equitable turn the volume up. It really is a great camera!
Are olympus digital cameras a good choice?
Q: Deciding on bying a digital camera. Would like to take encomiastic night shots... Are Olympus cameras very good? Do they take any brand SD visiting-card?
Five points for best answer!
A: I have purchased 4x Olympus digi cameras over a full stop of 8 years; I have never taken a bad picture yet. The memory cards that are toughened are fast enough for a point and shoot camera. I also use an Olympus SLR. I have a Panasonic Lumix that uses SD or SDHC retention cards and for your average shots you will find the Olympus produces a good counterpart, with good colour. Low light shooting is a problem with a lot of aim and shoot cameras including the Panasonic Lumix ($600+ valuation tag) and is disappointing. I have never found this issue with Olympus point and shoot; if you use the appropriate settings inbuilt with the camera. This manfacturer has been around a desire time and lens quality is good. Happy snaps.
How well do the Olympus digital cameras work.?
Q: I'm looking at the Olympus Stylus callous-600 with tap control. How well do these cameras work. I went to Best Buy and played with one and i as a matter of fact like it. The girl at Best Buy said they don't work well in low daybreak and they don't recover from a shot as fast as Cannon or Sony. Is this right, how well do they work.
A: In this region I'm pretty much MrSony but I actually like the Olympus compacts.
Olympus compacts employment as well in low light as any of current compacts (the as yet unreleased Sony's are obliged to be far better in low light and as Nikon use Sony sensors they'll as likely as not follow soon too), and the flash recharge time is not significantly worse than the ordinary for a compact.
The killer feature of most of the Olympus range is their "show me how" memorable part that sets up both YOU and the camera to take specific types of shots. There is no more hand holding capability on any camera I've seen. Oh and the experience that the camera is literally tough!
If you are sure the camera has the features you fall short of I'd go for it!
