Most appropriate image quality for it's size.
This is not meant to be a serious camera for serious use. It's what you would call a "toy camera", like the Hipstamatic camera from the 80's.
For it's infinitesimal size though, it's got pretty good image quality. You won't find another camera this tiny that takes photos as wholesome. Another aspect of this camera is the distortion you can get by moving it slowly and slightly while taking a photo. It'll fix long object (like skyscrapers or trains) look like they're rubber. Pictures from this camera are more over-saturated (some would call it "rich") and it's fixed focus (3+ Feet - infinity) but it can take some pretty seam nice artistic shots. Look this camera up on Flickr to see some examples of what it can do. No two of these take exactly the same pictures due to variations in the sensor and processing flake, and lens manufacturing aberrations.
Get this camera for funsies and only if you already have a real digital camera for serious shots. This is a hobbyist's camera. The possibilities for innovation with this (somewhat fragile) camera are endless and only limited by your imagination.
That being said, I rated it 4 stars, as it's a bit outrageous (and a little fragile) but even with that, I'd rate it 4.5 stars if I could.
I feel bad for the people that bought this camera for a hundred bucks, sensible it was a serious camera but ultimately it's their fault for not researching the camera *before* buying it.

Unparalleled Camera
The MINOX DCC Leica M3 5MP is a wonderful fabrication. Don't purchase it expecting Canon or Lumix point and shoot characteristics. Purchase it because it's fun. It has a unmatched visual quality that can be viewed on any number of internet sites. The images are distinctive. I hurtle professionally and own large, medium and small format equipment. I may not use this camera very often, but I love having it around.

Right-minded a toy:-)
I bought this camera due as a fun toy. It is not recommended if you want to buy a camera with good picture quality. Buy it as it is, a retro camera with pitiful image quality.

It Indeed is a toy!!! NOT a camera!!!
There is no other way to put this: as a camera, it is consummately useless. It can only take a somewhat useable picture under the most perfect of circumstances, and even then, you are horrified when you zoom in on the pixels. Now, add any description of unfavorable lighting to the equation, and you end up with TOTALLY UNUSABLE PICTURES. The whites bleed into big blurs, the perspicaciousness of field is so shallow that all your pictures end up out of focus (and no - that does NOT add a charming bokeh effect at all - it honourable makes everything look horrible).
Do NOT buy this item if you are shopping for a camera. You'd be better off taking pictures with your camera phone, even if it is an old one!
If you are after this particular for nostalgic reasons, and you have $130 to stick on a shelf, then by all means - it looks nice, and gets a lot of distinction from people.

Can not instil any way...
This small-minded camera is well built, very sturdy and compact. However the only problem is that it's highly possible that you have no way to use it without a computer or external power rig out.... The battery won't charge at all. Buyer be aware! I think there might me some effective products out there, many population just got unlucky and received defective ones....But adorama is a great seller. They do a full refund for you if you met an climax like me.

Big Non-fulfilment
If it only worked as advertised. Correct out of the box several functions did NOT work. Picture quality poor. More of a toy camera except for the price. Save your moneyed

A prodigious idea, poorly executed.
In spite of the reviews that I had read, I just could not help myself from ordering one of these. The size seemed just perfect, and the mechanism itself seemed sleek and sexy. I delayed my order only to confirm that the battery was replaceable (Minox quoted an approximate $20 + minor labor charge at any camera dealer). Thankfully, I did have the foresight to order it from B&H, which thankfully had a elevated return policy. The camera I received was, in fact, as sleek as I imagined, and had a great preponderancy to it. Unfortunately, it never would charge (10+ hours), and like the previous reviewer, the flash fondness did not work at all. This wasn't just minimal charge - it would simply not work unless it was to the point to the computer.
It was exactly what I wanted when it was connected to the computer: acceptable photo quality, nice lights and interface, very espionage-like. Unhappily, I had scheduled on using it without being tethered to my computer (crazy me!) so it went back to B&H the next day. So very disappointing too. I really like everything about this camera, except for the dismal quality of not working.
I did consider a replacement, but after reading how many other people had received defective units (here and on camera forums) and how I received two devices that would not take a jurisdiction made me think the quality control was at an abysmal level, and that anything I might receive would only break in a matter of months.
I would urge people to consider this is if it was at the low low cost of "free", though I might consider one in a few years on EBay if I know it lasted for the proprietress (but probably not for more than $50).

a piddling gem - but demanding
Mine worked upright out of the box - and made very nice pictures. Obviously, these cannot be viewed in really big formats, but they look great up to approx. 1600x1200. However, making a OK champion picture is a rather demanding task, as wobbles and wrong lighting show very quickly. So you either have a very steady ovation or you develop a knack for finding surfaces to stabilize your DSC :)
The battery does use up quickly (30-50 pics), but also recharges in 20 minutes. In adding, you may want to buy a converter for recharging with the USB cable at any power outlet.
The flash seems too strong at squat distances, but I rarely use it, as pics are great even in low light, if the camera is held stable enough.
In complete, this is a nice little gem which demands some knowledge of photography for good results.

big disappointment
I have been using Minox cameras and paraphernalia for many years, but this new camera is not up to the standards of previous Minox products.
The images are very poor quality. The camera claims 5 mega pixels, but only delivers nearly 3. The unit i received was defective right from the factory. the built in flash didn't rouse even in total darkness. the clip on flash unit didn't operate at all and the screen mounted in the shimmer unit was totally inoperable. you could not review pics except on your computer.
the camera didn't come with a legitimate charger or charger cable and must be connected to your computer to charge the battery. the battery also holds a very unpretentious charge and discharges quickly.
i plan to return my camera and do NOT recommend this unit to anyone, specifically if you expect the same quality of camera as a Minox 8 1/2 x11 camera. v this item is little more than an overpriced toy!

A remnant of junk
When you see a camera produce that bears the name of Leica, you will have a high expectation on its picture quality and also its built quality. Well, this particular has none of the Leica virtue in it at all. Its image quality, from its 2MP sensor although interpolated to 5MP, is far worse than any image can be produced even by cheapest movable phone that has a 2MP camera or above. Its built quality is like a toy that you will find in a cereal box. Leica should be ashamed to even supply this camera in the first place.

Sensitive little camera!
Well, I can chew over myself an "old timer" when it comes to photography...I started with the old black & white & progressed to the color negatives - still to this day, I have in mind regular 35mm beats the pants out of any regular digital SLR - that's unless you have enough money to burn and get an forward looking Leica or Hasselblad - some of those can go for as much as a the price of a new car (20K and up!) I and those in my generation that grew up with the Bond movies became acostumed to the Minox type - as the spy cams! I always wanted one, but the price was prohibitive back then - now for under $30.00 to get this novelty was just too much for me to hold back.
Introductory impressions are: as light as it said it would be, as compact as it said it would be - so far 2 pluses....I was a bit disappointed to find out that it was manufactured in Japan - if I had paid the card price (close to $300) to find out that it was made in Japan - i would have been a bit ticked off. Now, nothing bad with stuff being made in Japan, is just that this camera's cradle is from Germany and one would expect for this model to also be made in Germany.
The unit included a flash and film - very in a brown study - so I'll have to wait to get the film developed - only one place - and then I can report back.
Oh, by the way, the previous rater has to get a clue with membrane photography - not everything digital is better... and having 60+ negative reviews is not very flattering either!

Minox retro camera is cute and takes good pictures
If you are into retro cameras, here’s another one for you: As part of its Model Camera Assemblage , Minox released the Minox DCC 5.0 Pasty Issue.
On one's own, I have a silly macula for Minox, since my very first small camera was a Minox GT which I got as a offering in the 1970’s. To this day I still have this fade away camera, although I have not familiar it in degree some all at once.
