What is the difference in quality between 2 JVC Everio cameras?
Q: What is the contrast between these two cameras, quality wise...
GZ-HD300
or
GZ-MG630
If you can, do you have any examples?
A: The GZ-HD300 is an HD video camera, with a 20x zoom, 1/4 inch 8 MP sensor, and uses AVCHD efficiency. Video image size is 1080x1920 pixels.
The GZ-MG630 is an SD video camera, with 40x zoom, 1/6 inch 0.8 MP sensor and uses MPEG2 density. Video image size is 480x720 pixels (same as miniDV).
There is no juxtaposition, they use entirely different systems. On a static portrait affairs, the HD300 wins. On a shot with distant action and sign the MG630 does clearly better. Both employ non-clerical compression or Group of Frames (GOF) structure where there is one actual scurrilous frame, followed by a number of "virtual" frames that will be generated by interpolation on playback. the HD300 uses AVCHD which has a very beamy GOF of 8 making it poorly suited to resolving motion. the MG630 uses MPEG2 which has a varying GOF, but averages about 4. the variable rate allows it to come back to motion more accurately. MPEG2 is what you see on broadcast television (ATSC) and DVD pictures.
