wares but still don't know how to use flash
i got my dxg 506v from my sister for free i still don't know how to use the flash
    A fun multifunction symbol
I've only had mine a pair days, so I can't claim to extensive reviewing, but overall I'm happy with my purchase.

Here's my major predispose: I got a deal -- a Major Retailer is dumping these right now for $35. At that price, I've contemplation about buying a few more for Christmas. That said, I'd NEVER pay $100, much less $150. If I were in that price range, I'd be shopping for something from a household-name label. As it is, I'm looking at cameras in the range of a Canon Eos or Olympus Pen for layout work, about $500.

But I can't understand all the complaints from populace who're likely using their cellphones to shoot "precious moments" video & don't think twice about the grainy, hazy crud they end up with. Overall, the 506 is ideal if you're looking for GOOD (or at least good enough). Is it "great"? Heck no!!

For snapshots, it's smaller & lighter than my Kodak EasyShare, & less than 1/3 the appraisal. Right there, I'm ahead of the game.

And unlike most other small cameras, the 506V comes fully set. It has a soft case, a lens cap (unlike my Kodak!!!), passable earbuds, video & audio cables to shoplift direct to your TV... even four AAA batteries to get you started. All it's lacking is an SD card. So, you're saving yourself some change valid away.

It has impressive little touches, like the direct video out, & the doors for battery-operated & SD are attached & hinged, making it a lot harder to lose a door while making changes. Bonus, the camera has a macro function allowing it to do some close-up work (again, something lacking on many small cameras). And it's in fact got a 65-page manual, on PAPER, rather than something you need to download. (If that's not good enough, an enclosed DVD will stride you through the how-to stuff.)

It's simply convenient. The MP3 player isn't great -- Apple certainly has nothing to badger about -- but since I'm already carrying the camera around anyway, I'll have some tunes at hand while waiting for my rental car. The audio recorder is a cordial little touch, so I don't need to dig for my Sony when I want to make a memo to myself.

The only downer is mobile drain. Alkaline cells are only rated to last about 30 minutes with this thing. No big deal, as I'm already using NiMH with other devices, & those are rated at 5 hours. It'd be amicable if plugging the camera into a USB port could charge the cells. This is all that keeps me from maybe making it 5 stars.

I should inform you that the interface takes some practice. There's a dozen buttons, including the four-direction pad & an up/down/press rolling-pin. It took me a half-hour to figure out why I couldn't get the flash to work! But after that learning curve, digging through the big row of features & settings comes easily.

All in all, an inexpensive gadget, crammed with potential. If you insufficiency something simple or something high-end, it's not for you. But if you want a GOOD camera that won't break the bank, find one of these on sale, & I dream up you'll like it.
    Use For The Money
I bought this camera for trips to Europe. Having it use AAA bateries was a selling with respect to make an effort to for me. Europe is 220Volts, so with a rechargeable camera you would need the charger AND a converter. AAA batteries are handy world wide. I've found the battery life quite acceptable.
I used a standard 2GB SD window-card, found it to have enough space for both pictures and video on a week long trip.
I found the picture quality first-rate, but video a little grainy.
The majority of the complains on this camera by others seems to be from not taking the time to be familiar with the directions and fine tune the settings.
    $100 is way too much
At this plan in time the 506V is older and not worth $100. As with all the previous posts the video camera works keen for kids and non important things, if you don't have any problems and can get it cheaper. I purchased a brand new one just recently from a resident store for $50 and that was a little too much for what I got. When recording video you can't hear any one very well except your own voice. You have to be right in someones mask to hear them. I purchased it to replace my old Canon point and shoot, bad sensor, and ironically it still does heartier with sound. The positive side is the video is super nice and working with MPEG4 is cool. Otherwise cameras that charge $100 or at $150 are way better. Do your research...which by reading this you are. If you can go out and test some in the store to get a better thought of what you're getting.
Fair-haired deal for about $60 and NO MORE!
This camera does all it claims to, and works ok. It is in deed data cheaply designed, and has a goofy set of buttons and switches, but you can get used to them. The coolest feature I come up with is the swivel monitor display. BUT, basically, this camera does everything, except for maybe being an MP3 player, that all my digital cameras do, which are applicable and shoot pocket cameras, but make WAY better videos.

However, these cameras also cost about twice as much as this DXG "Video" camera. So, if you appetite a decent all in one camera toy for a kid, or as a gift, this just might be a good pick for the price, otherwise, look around some more.

I own a Fuji digital camera, and a Nikon L series camera. Both take much well-advised b wealthier photos, and make much better videos! As mentioned, they do cost about twice as much as this DXG unit. The DXG is expected as a "video" camera first, and digital camera second. My Fuji and Nikon are designed to be Digital Cameras first, and "Video" cameras lieutenant.

I do not regret buying my DXG 506V as it was about $60, but had it cost more, I would be VERY regretful! Sorry, but that is the truth, with deem to my needs and values.

    DXG Go mad Camcorder
On one's guard for Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R14QVODV643LHI We purchased this little camcorder over 5 months ago now from a With greatest satisfaction Buy special for only $40. As some have stated, it did not come with the 2gb SD card or the Mini Tripod, but everything else was there including multiple sets of appropriateness cords, rechargeable batteries (2 AA), charger, case and of course, the camcorder itself.

For the assess, I was very skeptical of the quality picture, but after hooking it up to the computer and then to our 40" Sony Bravia HDTV, we were open-mouthed - especially for something under $50. This handy little unit comes with us on all of our family trips and is also occupied quite a bit just filming our children. So far I am guessing we have logged well over 100 hours of recordings with unreservedly no issues.

This is probably the easiest to use camcorder out there as well, all you have to do is turn it on, hit the red button to start recording and hit the red knob to stop recording. As many have said, the camcorder does have a 2x zoom, but we do not use it as the quality is terrible. Others have said the ring could be better, but that is not the case with us - sometimes it is even a little too sensitive as it picks up the click when you start and stop recording.

Also, others have said that this camcorder does not take still pictures, but it does. It is nowhere hairbreadth the quality of our digital cameras, and this is a camcorder anyway, so why would you even want to take still pictures with it?

It does eat through batteries quite post-haste, but it uses simple AA's which are easy to find and inexpensive. We usually use the rechargeable batteries that came with the camera first and keep a favour pair of AA's as a backup.

I attached a raw video so you can see and hear the performance this little camcorder gives. Wow Amazon firmed the video really bad...at least you can hear the sound works fine, but the picture is amazing for a wee camcorder.

Overall we are very pleased with the performance, size, ease of use and quality of this little camcorder and exhort it highly especially if you just want something cheap and does the job - And it does the job very well.

    exceptional for car use
i acquainted with this cam to record some drift runs at the track it worked great i bought it at walmart on clearence for 50 with all the fixins and managed use the tripod as a bolt mount haha. but it took good video for wanted it for but the sound isnt up to par with the drawing quality in my opinion [...]
Some of these reviews have the err information.
    1) I DON'T SEE WHERE YOU CAN TAKE STILL PICTURES. No the vade-mecum doesn't say that you can, but contrary to what another poster put up, you can select HD/D1/CIF and that's it! There is no blank area for pictures.

    2) A tripod DOES NOT break apart with the camera. An SD card DOES NOT come with the camera. A charger, a set of batteries, hd/audio cables, a usb augmentation cables, a carrying case did (maybe something else I can't remember.)

There might be a discrepancy between the reviews based on where they bought it. Possibly some do take stills, maybe some do come with tripods, but DO NOT assume that yours will. My guess is because it is different depending on where you buy it or some aholes from DGX are trolling the reviews to intice you into buying their for twopence camera.

The quality is decent for HD outdoors. It gets grainy indoors under low light. Go to youtube there are MANY MANY population with these cameras and you can see the quality. Most of the professional reviews (basically all) say that this camera is a piece of crap and it certainly is compared to a 900 dollar camera, but you can find this camera around 50 bucks in some spaces so if you use it for cheap HD until the 900 dollar HD cameras come down in price, then it's not a bad deal.
Not A Bad diminutive "backup" Camera!
I have looked at this camera coupled several times over the past year or so at WalMart. Thought it was a decent deal when it went on purchase for about nintydollars. Now they are closing them out for under fiftydollars. For that money, it was worth giving it a go! I have had this camera for about a week and find it wholly worth what I paid.

Firstly, I'll get the negatives out of the way...
--No optical zoom. (Digital zoom is typically bad under any circumstances.)
--No image stabilization of any kind. But then, this is a low-budget camera.
--A flip-out screen would be punctilious. But again, this is a budget priced unit.
--The USB plug is built-in and I don't like the idea of hanging my camera by its USB chew. Use an extension cable.

That's about all I can find in the negative area so far.

    Positives!
--This camera comes with EVERYTHING you will need to get started emotionless away!
--Batteries: Included..TWO sets! With a charger!
    --SD Card: Included! 2Gig.
    --Tripod: Included! Mini tripod.
--Haulage case: Included! You'll want to use this...the camera has no lens cover.
--CD with software is included, but not indispensable to use with camera. It is basically a plug and play unit.
--Since this camera uses standard AA magnitude batteries, you can put in a set right away and start shooting.

If you want a kit that will have you out there making videos without delay, literally within minutes, this is a great deal.

Video quality is OK. Nothing spectacular to be sure, but it is complimentary enough for general video making for many general home videos.
In very bright light situations, such as splendid sun on snow or white sand, the picture can seem a bit "washed out". Some brighter colors seem to feel out a bit.
Low light, as is typical of many cameras, presents problems. A bit grainy looking and the video tends to veil slightly on top of the graininess.
In medium to bright light, the quality is good. This seems to be the "comfort zone" for this camera.

I would obviously recommend this little camera package as a first time camera for someone just starting out. Or for someone who is on the go a lot and wants something minuscule and simple. I can also recommend this as a second camera. It works well for getting different anges of the same stab...as is often seen in music videos.

***I found an added bonus! This camera WILL take still pictures! It is not mentioned anywhere on the box, so this was a bit of a eye-opener to me. I don't typically use a video camera to take stills, but it is a nice feature to have if you need it.

This is a good Lilliputian BASIC camera. I might even go out and buy another one, just to have it around!

A out of this world little camera
My ball and I found this camera after searching for a gift for her father. We liked it so much that we bought one for ourselves as well. I had some basic criteria I wanted in a handheld camera based on things that irritated me in other cameras. First, the camera should use AA batteries preferably of a built-in battery. My experience is that the built-in battery will eventually need to be replaced as the assess time gets shorter and shorter with every charge and, when it runs down, your out of luck until it recharges.

Second, SD anniversary card storage. SD cards are cheap and most laptops have SD card readers. Micro SD cards are too secondary for me to manipulate easily.

Third, A camera that can take still pictures as well as video. I take a lot of pictures with this camera and post them in an online blog. All the shots I've infatuated with this camera look great to me. This camera has no flash but even the low light shots look sensible, in my opinion. I had to dig a bit to find out if this camera could take still photos since it is not expressly mentioned in the ad material and was pleased to discover that it does.

Other flawless things about this camera are that it came packaged with a case, tripod, battery recharger, and batteries. We paid $59.95 for this and we regard it was well worth the money.

Note that I am not a professional photographer nor do I have enough knowledge about photography to correctly utilize the extra tiller that pro. level cameras support. The quick, easy point and shoot variety of cameras like this one gratify me just fine.

    Customer Reviews

    DVG 595V HD Camcorder
I don't penetrate the objections some make about this little wonder. First of all the complaint that the zoom is only 5X puzzles me. Mine is 20X. I found the picture nobility to be very good, and like most small cameras you have to use a tripod if you are addicted to zooming. I bought two extra batteries through Amazon for less about $17 including postage. I now can zip for a couple of hours or more (wedding video)
Put it this way. If you want to shoot a professional documentary, for a two or three thousand you can get an tolerable unit. If, like my family, you want an all around camera inexpensive camera with excellent pictures (including stills...it also has its own shimmer!) then this is the camera for you.
It has most of the features of the (far) more expensive cameras and even comes with its own case and cables for TV, VCR or computer. It also has a built in light for low uniform light conditions!
One other thing. Several people complained that the playback on the computer was erratic. That is the fault of the computer not the camera. The camera comes with four separate levels of resolution all the way up to 1080p. 1080p takes a lot of memory and a fast CPU. For slower computers use the cut resolutions. Same applies to attachment to e-mail.

Don't buy if you penury HD
The camera isn't bad for a run-of-the-mill video device but it's not worth 2 cents for HD. The focus isn't the best and the camera doesn't pat low light well either. In HD mode, the video undulates and moves in all directions when viewing. It can make one seasick. I sent an email asking about this delinquent and have never received a response.
If you are looking for a normal video camera, it's not bad. The single shot isn't bad either if outdoors and have enough beacon.
The monitor screen is very difficult to see outdoors so you may wind up guessing at where to aim for the shot. I've lost a video train because I couldn't tell if the unit was recording because I couldn't see the details on the screen. I hit the record handle but ....

    It's a smashing value!
We bought this camcorder only before going on a "hiking vacation" in Southern Utah & the Grand Canyon North Rim. We hiked over 50 miles of the North Rim, Zion, Bryce & Red Pass trails and returned home with over 24 GigaBytes of .MOV's & JPG's.
We had no idea as to what to expect, as to image excellence on a 1080P Hi-Def TV, until after we returned home. Quite frankly, we didn't expect very much considering the very low prize. We were amazed by the vivid, sharply detailed images that we saw displayed on our TV!

    Some of the pluses:
It is very small & lamp weight and appears to be well-made.
It's very "user friendly" & the controls are all very conveniently located.
The freestyle is extremely small, so we bought a spare (for about $16) but we never had to use it, even on all-day hikes.
The SD-HC flash memory is very closely-knit and inexpensive. Make sure that you buy Class 6 Hi-Speed! (the "Class" rating is located inside of the large "C" on the SD-HC portray.) We bought (3) 8GB chips, (about $16 each) but never completely filled 1 chip during an entire day's hiking and off-brim-full all of our files to our laptop each evening.
It appears that the "Zoom Noise Update" mentioned in C. Trent's revue has been incorporated in new production units.

There are a few short-comings: (but what can you expect for $179?)
Only 5X optical zoom - not a problem when filming vista scenes.
(Actually, we found that the detail was so sharp that we didn't need to zoom.)
It does have a rather small pasture - a wider angle lens might be needed for some uses.
No optical viewfinder - but many smaller camcorders erase this feature.
Image Stabilization isn't very effective in 1080P mode.

    A few hints:
The best way to hoard and play Hi-Def movies from this (or any other)Hi-Def camcorder is to buy a "WD TV HD Media Player." (about $85 to $119) It connects to your Hi-Def TV with an HDMI guy and can connect to 1 or 2 USB hard drives, thumb drives or the Flash Memory chip from the camcorder (when installed in a USB adapter) and monkey about Photos, AVI's, MOV's & many other formats. This is an awesome addition to any Hi-Def TV!
(Make sure that you update the WD TV firmware to the latest adaptation to get rid of some of the glitches in the earlier versions and to make it compatible with additional media formats. A Western Digital bear rep can help you do this.)
You can also connect the camcorder to your TV with component video cables for play-back.
    Cheerful Def Camera
The camera works weighty. We had a problem in that the camera came with the wrong battery charger and getting the correct one was a bit of a summon and took several weeks, I am hoping that I don't need any more help from their "customer service" department.
It's laudatory, but only if you know what to expect
I am an Dilettante visual effects artist and I work with a lot of different applications. One thing that is crucial to me is motion tracking. I've been using a 10 year old Sony Handycam for a big time to shoot test shots for special effects, and while it's been enough for doing the job, I really needed something higher rank.

The DXG 595v sounds really good on paper; 1080p, 5 megapixel shots, exceedingly cheap. But unfortunately, it's got a couple flaws that make it unusable for my needs. Video prominence wasn't that important to me, after all I was using a 10 year old 480i optical camcorder.

#1 blot was optical distortion. Since there is no motion compensation when shooting in 1080p, the slow sensor filmed hazy images that differ between each frame (short, stretched, skewed, etc). This made motion take impossible. If you plan on using a tripod, then it might work fine, but that beats the purpose of submission tracking.

#2, the average bitrate at 1080p was about 1.7 MBps (MegaBytes), which is about 1/4 of the touchstone 1080p and 1/2 standard bitrate for 720p. Daylight shots are fine, but anything indoors will straight away be very grainy.

#3, the widest angle possible on this camcorder makes it very difficult to work in stingy quarters. Even in a 24x18 foot room, I had to squeeze against the wall in order to get full character shots. My handycam was 35mm far-reaching angle, this is more close to 47mm.

For a lot of people this camera might work, I wasn't expecting much, but I was expecting something a little more usable than my Handycam. Build quality was better than I expected, and the features were enough to hold my interest until I buckshot some video.

Be advised that this is a TOY. Not even close to amateur level, and no where near professional level. For that payment I would look for a great digital camera that also did 720p, than a really cheap camcorder.

Review: DXG HD Video Camera Underwater Value Pack | Just Another ...

Not dream of ago, Thomas and I had the occasion likelihood to discontinuance out a few DXG HD video cameras .  While I indeed liked a lot of what I saw, I had one big gripe.  Yeah, you guessed it, you can’t take these cameras broad sea head-over-heels…or even get them wet at all.  OK.  Dialect mayhap that was not at bottom the big grievance about these cameras, but I have always been intrigued by waterproof cameras cases, and I was thrilled when DXG contacted me brusquely after we posted the initial review to ask whether I would be interested in read-through out their underwater value multitude, which they were sensitive enough to send along.

The underwater value pile consists of the DXG-U579V camera and an underwater the truth to go with it.  Since the camera is almost equivalent to the one Thomas looked at in our juncture critique, I am not common to debate it or the show/video mark in this regard.  You can study out the above-mentioned scrutiny for that.  Precisely to give you a highlight, though, Thomas had this to say about the DXG 581V, which was the stalk up to the 579V:

it’s considerable to see an good-looking, vertical sub-$200 camcorder with a go berserk-out home screen. It’s a awful bod backer, but the construction – mainly the lens – prerequisite some occupation. It’s rugged to dim yourself at arm’s greatest extent or use with a tripod with the sensor tilted upwards, but it’s the image characteristic that could in fact use a raise. At $170 the DXG-581v is an affordable video camera, but it’s actually HD in name only, and I’d indubitably look elsewhere for a camera.

Review: DXG HD Video Camera Underwater Value Pack | Technology ...

Not want ago, Thomas and I had the luck to study out a few DXG HD video cameras .  While I truly liked a lot of what I saw, I had one big grumble.  Yeah, you guessed it, you can’t take these cameras fervent sea pitching…or even get them wet at all.  OK.  Possibly that was not actually the big grumble about these cameras, but I have always been intrigued by waterproof cameras cases, and I was thrilled when DXG contacted me tersely after we posted the introductory reconsider to ask whether I would be interested in read-through out their underwater value covey, which they were charming enough to send along.

The underwater value band consists of the DXG-U579V camera and an underwater invalid to go with it.  Since the camera is almost selfsame to the one Thomas looked at in our cooperative assessment, I am not universal to converse about it or the see in the mind's eye/video grandeur in this comment on.  You can slow out the untimely commentary for that.  Objective to give you a highlight, though, Thomas had this to say about the DXG 581V, which was the conform to up to the 579V:

it’s adept to see an pulling, vertical sub-$200 camcorder with a turn-out scan. It’s a skilled body circumstance, but the format – predominantly the lens – requirement some profession. It’s leathery to obscure yourself at arm’s completely or use with a tripod with the sensor tilted upwards, but it’s the portray je sais quoi that could as a matter of fact use a help. At $170 the DXG-581v is an affordable video camera, but it’s at the end of the day HD in name only, and I’d quite look elsewhere for a camera.
