Should I buy a Sigma SD14 or DP1 camera?
Q: I am looking for a semi-low-cost, high quality professional still camera. I am intrigued by the Sigmas because they are more rare and I am impressed by reviews I've study. Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro
A: Alternate question first: get the "APO" version of the Sigma 70-300mm lens and you'll get a MUCH well-advised lens for not much more money. I've had that lens for 2 years, and I'm very pleased with it, at f/5.6-f/11 it competes propitiously in sharpness, contrast, and color fidelity with my Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L lens, which payment 8 times as much!
As for studio accessories...you'll need some good studio showy units, I recommend Alien Bees for great importance and reasonable prices (see link below). Get one or two, and a softbox and some reflectors, and you'll have a very masterly setup. Since the RebelXT doesn't have a PC-sync terminal, you'll necessary to get a hot-shoe to PC terminal adapter, available at any photo retailer for less than $10 -- you won't want to always use the built-in flash and the light bondsman sensors on the external units!
I'd also highly recommend either the Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens or the EF-S 60mm f/2.8 macro lens -- both finish out GREAT portrait lenses, are incredibly sharp, and you can do in-studio macro employment with them as well.
If you can afford it, get a flashmeter -- that will make proper unveiling, light balancing, etc. much easier. It's better with digital than it was with screen (since you can shoot a test shot and look at it on the LCD screen to be fair away to check exposure), but a flash meter is still a Gargantuan help.
