    Tamron AF 18-250mm
    I am on cloud nine to get a versatile lens by a good company at a decent price. For some reason, some shots happen back overexposed and I can see no reason why. I can use the same settings and take the picture again and it will correctly expose the shot. This is the only lens to which I have this occurring & I own 4 other lenses. I am using this on a Canon Resistance fighter. I like all the other features with the lens. It is definitely a basic lens without image stabilization, but why it misinterprets the ttl readings bugs me. Still, I can have the camera in the back fundament and be ready for any opportunity to capture a picture wherever I may be.
    Colossal buy
    I beloved this lens for what it offers, taking a variety of great photos with out having to change anything out. I do a lot of hiking with this and it's colossal for that variety, either wildlife out in the distance or a great shot of a mountain view. The only thing I find a dwarf annoying is the lens not being able to 'lock' to stop the expansion while your walking. All in all though this is a great lense that I have some fantasitc photos from.
    A very suitable lens for the money
    Like most population here I'm very pleased with this lens, and if you stop down even one stop its really sharp. Slightly soft at 250mm, so I keep off that, sweet spot aperturewise is about F8 to f14 but having said that it does a decent job at any aperture. A lofty all in one lens that eliminates dust issues because I never have to change i! One small problem is the "zoom crawl" when the lens if pointed down. In my case its more like "zoom fall". I wish the zoom were a scarcely stiffer, but I avoid this by keeping the lock on when I'm not using it.

    Because of unfaltering build quality, solid performance, and value, Tamron has become my current favorite non-Canon lens fabricator, for my EOS system SLR's. Having had great results with Tamron's 17-50mm, and 28-75mm Di LD zooms, I had no reservations about choosing the Tamron 18-250mm zoom (F3.5-6.3), when I needed a prevailing use lens for travelling. Thus far, this superzoom has proved to be a versatile performer, that provides good results across a afield focal range. An excellent choice as a walk-around or travel lens. With this one lens, you can with no shoot decent quality landscapes and scenic shots, or get in close for basic portraits.

    The cover is primarily plastic, making the weight very manageable. The 62mm lens is well constructed, and compact, measuring 3.5 inches extraordinary, and 6.5 inches fully extended. There is a nice wide rubber grip spinning the barrel. Autofocusing is reasonably fast, smooth, and silent, with minimal vibration. As you might foresee, the lens is subject to some lens creep, but there is a lock button, to keep the barrel from extending when not in use.

    While you quite will not achieve spectacular results across the board, you can probably expect images that while somewhat easy, still look reasonably sharp, without excessive distortion. As the barrel extends, weight should not be a notable issue, but holding the camera steady becomes more critical, as the lens does not have image stabilization.

    Besides mainly good performance, the convenience of this lens is another of its major attributes. As Canon does not maker a lens in this focal range, you will be looking at a non-Canon lens. At this price level, you doubtlessly won't get much better performance. Buying from Amazon, you have the opportunity to try out the lens, and return it if it does not into your expectations. And Tamron lenses are covered by a six year factory warranty.

    Kindly lens for the money
    This lens tested well in most cases. You do dire to be aware of the lens distortion on the 10mm side and using the proper techniques to help minimize them as sauce as possible. Also because of the ultra wide angle, the lens shade gives little safe keeping outdoors. Best to have a large flat object such as a card board or a portable reflector to retain c stop above the lens to eliminate sun from getting into the lens that would create flair when shooting outdoors. IT is what it is, and should be expected when using this kidney of focal length lens.
    Helpful focal range but it's not very sharp
    I bought whis lens to give it a try to Tamron after reading several reviews and comparing against the Sigma and Tokina. I use it with a Schismatic XTI (400D) and a complementation of a 24-105L. I like it, construction is good, distortion very well controlled, cromatic aberrations is well-deserved ok, sharpness is just ok on the center but regular to bad on the corners, even at f5.6, f8 or f16. I did some home check-up with some friends that own Canon 10-22 and Sigma 10-20. I believe that Canon is the best choice between these three options. Aid place to Sigma (sharp a little better)I don't mention tokina because a have not try it.

    Conclusion: It's ok but it is not exciting to say "WOW!!!!".
    NOT Secure
    I have been shy of a super wide angle lens for my cannon EOS 30D, and this was a great price, and I have another Tamron lens! BUt not unfailing if they are not truly compatible?
    Takes GREAT pictures outdoors and in good light, brilliancy of field, range, ...... no fish eye, ... BUT in doors ( where I really wanted it) I take a visualize, look at it in the view finder, looks good. Get to a computer, pictures are all dark? NOT at all the light values when pictures was viewed quicker? Canon dealer, said, "should have bought a canon lens" (what a stupid response!), and objective to busy to figure out what is wrong? So for now, I really haven't used it?
    Importance build, more distortion than expected
    Using this lens with a 40D, I was underwhelmed with the results and will replacement it and try with the Sigma. The build quality and feel of the lens was very good. I use the excellent Tamron 18-270 so the assemblage has satisfied me in the past.

    As with any wide angle lens, the principal concern is going to be distortion and my expectations were level-headed. Some barreling is normal. What surprised me is how often the aberrations crept out of the corners to the heart of the images. Not always, intellect you. The problem is most severe when you've got the lens wide open -- but then isn't that part of the point of this lens? Also you do get original results depending on stop but i didn't find a consistent solution. Moreover, I'd rather not have to factor that in for every shot.

    A brace of other points. Focusing was really good in the center of the image but pretty soft at the corners. Again, there was modulation. Color representation was good and consistent.

    This lens may turn out to be better than the competitors and I may end up having to re-hold it but first I'll check out the Sigma and, if necessary, the Canon.
    A Honourable Performer especially in this zoom range
    I acquired this lens to take precautions me with an ultra-wide zoom for landscapes and indoors uses. I do not routinely shoot in this convergent length range, so I was hesitant about spending so much on the Canon 10-22mm, although the Canon 10-22mm is by all accounts, outlandish. I have had very positive experiences with Tamron in the past, and decided to give this lens a try over the Sigma equivalent. Cosmetically, the lens is very lightweight but feels worthy in the hands, and the zoom ring takes some getting used to as it rotates in the opposite leadership as Canon brand lenses. The finish on the lens is very nice and the included lens hood hysteria nicely, but provides only minimal protection to the front element. This is understandable since this lens is an ultra-far-reaching zoom, and larger lens hoods would cause vignetting and shadowing problems. The lens hood does a slight job of protecting from lens flare issues. The lens extends only a small amount when zooming. Deportment wise, the lens is quite soft wide open, which is somewhat disappointing but not a significant issue for my own uses. It is something to be acutely aware of nonetheless. However, stopped down to f/8 or narrower fixes this delinquent, and at f/8 and narrower, the lens is very sharp with very nice color contrast and saturation. Sharpness falls off again at f/16 due to diffraction, but between f/8 and f/16, the lens is excellent. CA is nicely limited as is barrel distortion, both of which are common big problems for many lenses in this focal range. I was pleasantly surprised with this lens's authority of CA as I was expecting it to be much worse than it is. I borrowed a friend's Tamron 11-18mm lens, and my 10-24 was VASTLY status with regards to problems with CA and barrel distortion and adds a complete stop of speed. The upgrades that Tamron has made with this lens are very patent and worth the extra cost over the previous generation Tamron ultra-wide zoom lens. The autofocusing is very silent, accurate, and fast. Overall, this is a very nice alternative to the vastly more expensive camera-branded lenses like the Canon 10-22mm or the bloody expensive Nikon super-wide angle lenses and provides very good quality in this zoom distance.

    UPDATE: Recently, this lens took a serious tumble from about 3 feet off the ground onto a hard tile bring down. The only damage was a ding on the lens cap! I'm impressed.

    Mostly very satisfied (VC is advantage it) with some disappointments (dust inside and not good for macros))
    My Credibility:
    I stab with a Rebel G back in high school, and ,for several years (starting at around the introduction of the DSLR), I spent infinitesimal time on photography and no time on a SLR. So it's fair to say that I am new to photography (especially digital photography). I purchased this lens in July to go with my T1i. Both this lens and my camera are now with my gf (though I will ask her to touch someone for the lens and camera sometimes). I've taken a total of about 5.5k pictures with this lens with several videos. My current trap consist of: 7D, 24-105L, 18-55 (Rebel kit lens), 50 1.4, Tamron 10-24. and a 75-300 (USM non-IS from year 2001). I've also bewitched about 2000 pictures using a 100mm f2.8L IS macro.

    The BAD:
    --Dust inside!
    The first thing I noticed when I opened the box with my 18-270 in it was that there was a compose of dust (that looked like a small grain of glitter) on one of the inner elements. This was a big new-toy joy-assassin. My second big disappointment was when I noticed even more dust entering the lens later on. I think I'm being a scant lenient on my star rating with this lens as I know many photographers would consider this absolutely undesirable. Right now I don't think there's enough dust on the inner elements to depreciate image quality, but if more dust has entered through at all times then eventually there will be a drop in IQ. I have not yet tried to send this lens in for service nor did I try to return it, but I think receiving a "bad replicate" the first time merits dropping at least one star. Without this problem I would've given 4 stars. One thing that makes this not seem like such a bad fixation to me is that I've heard similar stories with Canon's high-end EF-S lenses, and even a case in which an L lens was letting dust in.
    --Macro and semi-macro photos at deviant apertures (270mm at 6.3) have a very ugly blur for out-of-focus objects. It reminds me of the tenor a drop of water or tears can have one human vision, or maybe even blurriness due to camera shake and easy shutter speed. Macro shots would often look nice on my T1i screen, but unacceptably declining on my computer screen. I think they should delete the word "macro" from the description to prevent anyone from being mislead. My T1i kit lens took think twice macros. For all other purposes sharpness is good but not great, and I don't think anyone should expect it to be great.
    --Tuppence feeling zoom ring (too loose or too tight depending on focal length)
    This is a lassie problem for me. There are many reviews that mention lens creep and difficulty zooming at around 100mm, so I won't allusion much here.
    --No full time manual focus.
    --Focus ring rotation is small/short
    --Sports car focus is slow (when compared to USM lenses but about the same as the 18-55)
    --Could have a better build (I also own a Tamron 10-24 which is slightly better built than the 18-270)
    --VC jumps upon startup. This has only been a question for me when I was shooting 1sec+ exposures on a tripod and I forgot to turn it off (see the "GOOD" part of my review for more)
    --Noisy AF and VC. Though this doesn't fuss at me. The sound of the VC actually sounds pretty cool to me, it's like a robot or something.
    --Barrel distortion is to a certain stronger than 18-55.

    The GOOD:

    ++Nothing else like it (Incredible zoom range)
    ++VC is very effective. Tamron's VC seems to work reduce different from Canon's IS. For VC I noticed the image would somewhat jump around in between points of near stillness. IS seems to behindhand down and smooth-out camera shake overall. If I absolutely had to choose I'd say the VC is better than the IS. Others may not agree and I am reluctant to say this, but some deft tests show that I have taken acceptable handhelds at as slow as 1/4sec @ 270mm. With my 24-105 I will not reconcile for anything less than 1/10sec at 105mm (some photographers note that they have taken good handheld shots at 1/3sec with the 24-105).
    ++Very close minimum aperture (f40). there's really very very few occasions when anyone would really need this, but it's something to me.
    ++Compact
    ++Comes with hood
    ++Lens clasp allows you to keep the lens at it's shortest length when carrying your camera on your shoulder. The locking switch is in a deposit where it can be quickly disengaged.
    ++$80 Rebate. I got my lens from an ebay authorized Tamron dealer for $10 cheaper than amazon (though I second amazon because I had some trouble with my order - but that's outside the scope of this review). The point I am making is: After I bought my Tamron 10-24 about a month later I bought I my 18-270 I knowledgeable that lenses purchased on ebay don't qualify for the rebate. I sent the rebate forms in at the same time and Tamron gave me the mark down anyway.
    ++6 year warranty, I plan on sending in my 18-270 for service soon and if I do then I'll try to update this comment on how that goes.

    Conclusion and additional notes:

    Do I recommend this lens? Yes. I think it's a great value lens, unusually for people who simply want nice family pictures. I believe that the dust issuance is just unfortunate for me, and it doesn't seem like there's many people complaining about this. I really thought I could buy this lens and not have anything else, but this is plainly not true. For many, just this lens might suffice, but not if you're serious about photography or take a lot of macros. Even if you're just a casual relations photographer I recommend using an external flash with this lens for indoor photography, shadows from the lens and built in ritzy will show at wider angles and close distances (backing up is a good cure for this).
    lens sneak
    everybody talking about lens slink on this lens but nobody has said how tamron will tighten the barrel for u at no cost to u except postage to them...they will ship it back...so instead of significant people about the lens creep making people afraid to invest in a dynamic awsum lens for the affluent...tell people how to fix the small problem ....tamron does this slow creeping so residents dont squawk about how hard it is to turn the lens out or in... as im sure people would do as they are on and on about the lens creeping out...there i seem to be better now i got that off my chest
    Big lens but for one fatal flaw - disappointed!
    I've been shooting for over 10 years and currently use a Canon 50D. I've acclimated to Tamron in the past with mixed results. Though this lens is a great leap forward for Tamron as far as image distinction, range, and vibration control goes, it has two flaws...on of them fatal in my opinion.

    First off, if you're a canon consumer, the zoom ring is reversed and can be confusing at times. This is not a serious set back but will take some getting used to if you get this lens.

    As for the final flaw; in the mid zoom range, about 70mm to 130mm, the zoom ring becomes extremely tight. If you zoom out and you're aiming anywhere below be open this lens will lock up tight when you try pulling it back in. If you're in the middle of a photo shoot as I was, it can completely draw you out of the moment. At this point you'll need to stop what you're doing, tilt the camera backward and shake the container back into the body.

    In many other ways I love this lens, but I cannot use it and am returning it. Furthermore, I cannot recommend it until they resolve this emanation.

    I've come to the conclusion that the greater the zoom range the more the sacrifice in light, color, and inclusive performance. Ultimately, I went with the Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM UD Wide Angle Zoom Lens and am very on cloud nine with it - it's sharp, solidly built, and renders very accurate color.

    Stuff b merchandise general lens for the zoom capabilty, but quality issues hurt it significantly.
    Most often in cheaper zoom lenses, the build quality tends to be an issue and this holds true for the Canon 18-270mm. Spitting image wise, the lens is quite sharp, though the images seem slightly darker than say a canon 18-55mm lens, but as characteristic with these types of lenses there are a few flaws...

    First of which obviously is lens creep. There is a locking button, however Tamron wasn't very class to others as you tended to need fingernails to lock it in place. Another issue was the slow focusing... chiefly at the higher 6.3 scale. But by far the mose anoying thing was the build quality. From the first day i found (and found out others had the same result) that pointing straight up or down the lens could not be retracted or extended properly... it would become stiff, however would move. Lens sealing technology also lacksa in this lens... drift that in a dusty environment expect the lens to be compromised. The build itself looks solid but cannot mete out with long term use especially zooming in and out often. Unfortunately I just had mine destroyed as the mechanism fo zoom it in or out had in disrepair away, leaving it to slide in or out as it pleases... when I disassembled it I realised all the connectors were destabilized... scratch one tamron lens. other places and people have reported inconsistent lens sharpness among other issues...

    All in all if you are looking for a worldwide purpose lens, it is a brilliant one. However with all the issues build wise, it may be better to look elsewere.
    Considerable, but not worth the trouble
    Goodness: Great range. Excellent picture quality. Image Stabilization (or what ever Tamron calls it) works well. The unrestricted hood is nice.

    Bad: My Canon 250mm lens has more 'zoom' than the 270mm on this lens. Turning the lens to 'zoom' is very earnestly at times.

    Comments: My wife and I were excited about having an all-in-one lens. Upon receiving this lens it is instantaneously obvious how hard it is to turn at times (for 'zooming'), especially at an upward seek. Several people have complained about it, and some say it gets better. We used the lens for 2 weeks, and it never did get better for us. We also picked up the Canon 18-200, and the 'zoom' is noticeably heartier on the Tamron lens, but not enough for us to keep it. We are returning this lens.

    Let's not leave behind that this is a low-cost lens. At the same time, it delivers a nice tele-zoom with macro skill (make sure you read the manual, or you will never get back OUT of macro mode!!!). It "does what it says on the tin", even though it is tolerant to note that the picture can be a little soft, there is quite marked CA, and the autofocus labors slightly.
    Construction seems solid enough, and with the included hood I would say that this does give a good value (although I haven't had the casual to compare it with the similar offerings from Sigma and Canon).
    Heinous value for money.
    If you are an amateurish photographer looking to stretch out and buy a second lens, you can;t do wrong by this one. For its price its worth having while you hone your skills. This lens is specifically good for getting pics of those critters and creatures you can;t get close enough too. Bear in mind when you use this lens to its full imminent at 300mm zoomed in you have to be pretty steady, use a tripod or monopod or lean on something. Not all shots will arrive out great if your just hand holding as it is quite a heavy and lengthy lens. It does succeed with its own lens hood, something I did not realize when I ordered. The only slight beef I had was the zoom focus tub is a little stiff, but you get used to it quickly, its not a Canon lens. Overall as a beginner I am very on top of the world, I got a new lens experience with good quality at a small price. I am uploading two pictures infatuated with this lens and a Rebel T1i at a local pond, one frog and one dragonfly, each taken from about 8ft away on Macro wise. This Lens has a normal/macro switch. The AF is not as quiet as a Canon lens, but also its not really uproarious either, doesn't bother me.
    Gather from it's limitations and work within them
    I purchased this lens as good as four years ago. Once I understood how I could use it, my frustrations decreased and my productivity increased. It is strictly for OUTDOOR USE ONLY. I've tolerant of it for sporting events and I managed to steal a couple of good shots from it. It does toil satisfactorily on sunny days. However, cloudy days will reduce your shutter by 1 to 1.5 stops. The rest is enough to render the lens nearly useless or you must crank up the ISO. Nevertheless, the small aperture and the snail-like focusing scamper does not lend itself to sports photography.

    I primarily use it for Macro photography. It excels in that space. Using a tripod and the manual focus allows me to get pretty good images. Although the focusing interval with Macro is approximately three feet, you can still fill the frame with flowers and their petals with the 300mm zoom.

    It is a considerable travel lens and it can work as a portrait lens as well by isolating the subject and providing a gracious bokeh.

    The lens does not excel in any particular area. It provides you with the opportunity to try distinguishable areas of photography and as you grow you can upgrade to lenses that provide better quality but not the versatility. Account the lens is less than $200, you can create great images with the understanding of what it can do and what it cannot.

    I've had it for four years and I'm starting to get Err99 messages. With that said, I lay out to purchase another one as well.

    I am more new to the SLR picture taking world. All along i have been using point and shoot and was never much into photography until i bought my first Canon revolutionary XS. The canon came with a 18-55mm standard lens. The canon lens was alright with not much WOW consideration to it. I bought the tamron lens so that i could have a better range on my pictures and i was happily surprised by the picture value. The Tamron lens took sharper and more realistic pictures as compared to the 18-55mm canon lens. I have not second-hand any other brands so to me the Tamron lens is very well made and well worth the money i paid for it (Amazon - $164) Overall it was a very consumable buy and with the 6 years warranty, this deal beats all. I will definitely look into getting another Tamron for my next lens.

    Unsurpassed buy image-stabilized zoom lens
    I've bought 2 samples of this lens in ago 3 months. For about only 460 USD each (I'm in southern Europe and shipping was also free). They were each made in Japan, so that could be difference as I heard there are also floating non-Japan made versions. I've had bad suffer before with kit lens from Canon that was made in Taiwan so I didn't want to risk this time.

    Honestly, I've never found raise zoom lens for the price. Lens is sharp, contrast is great, I've found that it is good even in lens-flare situations. Distortion is also very tolerable, is not ugly in most situations, ofcourse there is expection in taking pictures of architecture under the pronounced angles, but that is general for all lens except tilt & shift. For those concerned about distortion, Adobe Lightroom, from version 3.2 even offers emendation for every Tamron lens i think, including this one. And it does it pretty well. But as i say, it doesn't bother me at all.

    Likewise, I don't skilled in what is all fuss about slightly louder focus (it's even isn't loud to me) and I have to say that I also had earlier version of this lens and it was much more louder than this one. Also, facing zooming...big deal.

    I was scared at first after I read some bad reviews of this lens, but who knows, maybe they had non-japan made versions, or maybe they got bad specimen.
    VC is also very usefull, don't believe ppl who say this is waste: some of the prettiest images come exactly when sun goes down and when you're in metropolis you don't have time or patience to have and set your tripod. This is must only for big prints when you want noiseless images and then you would want to hurt at ISO 100 or ISO 200, either way it's not important. Only weakness that I've noticed is that it is not very resistive to lens-flare at f2.8 and 17mm i (I have hood always engaged) but again, this is not very pronounced and is pretty much normal for such combination of aperture and focal length. This is also easily correctable in affix-production and avoidable in most situations (try not to have sun or stronger source of light in frame and try to find best edge when shootings).

    I shot good examples of VC usefullness (and sharpness of this lens) recently at anniversary in town Varazdin in my country (Croatia). I will upload them in above's gallery.

    In brief, I recommend this lens to everyone. For about only 460 USD you can't find any outstrip fixed-aperture, f2.8, lens. Canon' version of this lens is much more expensive.
    Very consumable lens
    I am using this lens with my Canon 50D for biography 4 weeks and have taken some excellent pictures in closeup (butterflies), portrait & landscapes. Works very well both indoor & outdoors. I right-minded wish it could zoom up to 85mm, otherwise no complaints.
    Very company walk-around lens w/low light capability
    This Tamron is a adept lens! I've replaced my previous walk-around lens with this lens. My previous walk-around lens was the Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6. The Tamron can dream up sharp photos, has VC, and can get good images in low light.

    Pros:
    - VC (Tamron's version of Image Stabilization)
    - Classy images, without having to stop down
    - Low light capability

    Cons:
    - Focus is not quite as high-speed as my Canon lenses with USM
    - Focus is more noisy than my Canon lenses with USM
    - Zoom ring work in opposite course as all my other Canon lenses (I just need to get used to this)
    value for resources
    I've had this lens for 8 months now, first on a 40D now on a 7D. I am totally surprised by how sharp it is and what good contrast it delivers. The build is solid and feels really rugged. Some people's expectations are unrealistic in terms of the price though; it should not be judged againt lenses costing over $1000 without attractive the price into account. This lens should be seen as an upgrade from the 18-50 canon kit lens, (which isn't bad for the inconspicuous price). For the money you get a better build and a brighter image. The sharpness is better than the kit lens, though not sensitively (it is as sharp as the 24-105 f/4 from Canon, which is 3x the price). While the image at 2.8 is not as sharp as when it is stopped down, it is unquestionably useable and will get you shots that would not be possible with the kit lens. The only negative is the focussing which hunts a bit in low light and is not as nice as Canon's USM. But, hey, you can't have everything at this price!
    Very respectable image, not so good mechanics
    I purchased this for a Canon T2i tolerant of primarily for video. On the plus side it provides an image that is sharp for video with it's lower pixel requirements and is a acceptable value for the price. The image stabilization, Vibration Control to Tamron, works very well, and gives sick, more natural results than that used in my Panasonic Tm700 camcorder. On the negative side, the focus clink is not at all smooth. I'm not sure if mine is defective, but it is very hard to get a nice manual transition from blurred to indistinct because the sticky ring causes a jerky motion. Also the difference between being in or out of focus is an extremely minuscule movement so fine tuning can be difficult.

    If I lost or broke this lens I may replace it or dialect mayhap save for a lens with better quality mechanics. It's a toss up.
