Powerfully recommended for amateur photographers
I would like to favour this camera for all amateur or professional photographers. I have a similar camera to this one and I have no problems with it. The wide mesh is pretty awesome!!! I have been using these cameras for Praise/worship services, they do a Cyclopean job serving its purpose. Clear pictures is what you really want and the still photos are also very good. If you get the freestyle that holds 248-250 minutes you have made the right choice. You can easily set your camera at the LP mode and many times you will get an hour of recording as opposed to of 30 minutes. When I purchased this camera there were many negative reviews about this camera, but so far I have all the praise for this camera. Grand camera to put inside your pockets without having to put into a case. Will enjoy this camera for many years to get possession of.

Me no speaka the idiolect!
Bought this camcorder for my spouse to use primarily. We have a new baby so I wanted something easy to use and that would provide quality recording. Not disappointed there. The only puzzler was the initial use was at other daughter's sweet sixteen birthday party. Since my wife had not taken it out of the box yet I was hurriedly fatiguing to get it set up to film the festivities. Unfortunatley, the default language setting was Spanish!! The instructions in the directions were incorrect so it took about thirty minutes of trial and error button pushing to get the settings to English. Besides that tiny problem this camcorder is muy bueno!

Predilection IT!!
I weakness this camcorder because I don't like to spend a lot of time figuring out how to work anything. I got it set up in the car on the way to visit family so it would be cash. Very easy except it came set up in Spanish (what is with that). Better check on that before they are sent out is all I can say. Otherwise it is very easy to use and makes excess videos.

Lovin it so far.
Attachment the camera, the battery life and the ease of use on most features. The only downfall is the finalizing discs before you can note on a dvd player. The true test will be at the beach later this summer. Great camera for the sacrifice!!!

Insanely inadequate and does great job in low light and of course quality and price - must consider this
I got this about two weeks ago
pros - feel mortified size - incredibly small - yet great picture. Low light performance is amazing. Proper battery life (I added FV70 - as included battery has a life of about 1 hour).
cons - no tribute included - so I have to wait to get my new transcend 16GB speed-10 card. Someway it is better as I on one's uppers my last camara and spent lots of money trying to get my videos out of that camcorder. Here I can open and take the visiting-card out and boom.
Got format fatory software for free - it will read the current format on the be open and convert to regular formats (like AVI etc.)
I checked the converted files on PC and looks remarkable. I haven't tried Sony's software yet, but will try it in couple of weeks.

Prime beginner's/home use camcoder
This camcoder can diary in HD quality (1080i) and directly on to SD memory cards. It is very small in size, simple to manage, has a number of built-in functions (which you might hardly use though) and has a nice lcd screen. As with our previous Sony camcoders, this also produces with the exception of video quality and acceptable audio quality.
The camcoder would easily fit inside the palm of an usual-sized adult and has a 2.7" LCD screen. You open the lcd screen to switch on the camcoder (it has not perspective finder). There is a manual lever to open the shutter and you are ready to shoot. The zoom and record buttons are conveniently to be found and can be operated by your index finger and thumb respectively. The lcd indicates battery life and left over recording time. You can set a number of features (transitions, video quality (9 mbps to 24 mbps) etc). It has 25x visual zoom and okay quality 'shake compensation' feature. Most default settings are okay for digs videos. Of course, there are menus for play back, review and delete videos. There is also a direct long feature to burn directly to specific USB DVD burners w/o a computer.
The videos are in 'm2ts' format and can be copied to a computer fitting using the SD card. Sony also provides a software to download, edit and burn these on to discs in bluray, AVCHD or SD-DVD formats. The software runs only on a PC though. However, the m2ts files can be viewed patently using VLC player software. you can connect the camcoder directly to a computer using USB cable or to a TV using a/v or part cable. HDMI cable is not included, but is optional (there is a mini hdmi port on the camcoder).
The videos are of ripsnorting excepting quality - even with the 9 mbps setting, they are very good and gives you quiet a bit of recording time (~1.5 hours) on a 16GB liable act.

Right-minded what I was looking for...
I recently purchased this camera to annals all of those priceless memories a new addition to the family can bring. After doing alot of product probing and suffering through one failed attempt at purchasing a camcorder, I found this one. Let me just say that it was the best camera for the rate. The video is extremely crisp and vivid under normal lighting and conditions. It does get a bit "grainy" under low lambaste, but it beats the competition hands down in low light. This camcorder has a lot of useful features that I was really impressed with, and they are very operator friendly. I admit that the menus and user interface leaves a little to be desired, but that seems to be unexceptional among the Sony Handycam line of products wether it is SD or HD. However, I still give this camera 5 stars, and if I had it to do all over again I would, no doubt, purchase this camera.

Reliable LOW LIGHT RECORDING!!
For those who CD indoors and do not want to shine bright lamps in peoples faces. A friend of mine had a Canon HF-R10 HD Camcorder and this Sony CX110 blows that one in a different place in low light recording. The video from the sony was way more crisp and smooth than the canon. My friend ended up returning the canon and bought the sony. Very within easy reach and fast to upload video to pc with the included software.
Pros: Good low light recording, 4 disparate HD recording modes, good software, convenient uploading, good battery spark of life, touch screen menus, easy to navigate, stunning HD video captures, organize/trim clips on camera.
Cons: Smile Detection useless for picture captures, but ardent for auto face focusing. Can feel funky to hold with the small strap.
Inclusive Great Product!

Customer Reviews
Terrifying Camcorder! 2 years Later and STILL love it!
We bought this camcorder just prior to my daughter's birth. I did a lot of research and this camcorder had awesome reviews. I have used this camcorder many, many times in the defunct 2 1/2 years of ownership.
It has never given me any problems except when I mistakenly put in a full DVD-R disk and I got an error communiqu telling me to check the disk. Oops! My mistake, not the camcorders. I put in a full disk. But I'd be willing to bet that these people that say the camcorder "erased" their footage really erased it themselves on accident by using a DVD-RW. These disks are meant to be recorded over so if you put it in the camcorder by accident or "overlook" the reverse side of the disk was previously used, you WILL record over your own disk. Buy DVD-R disks and you won't have this problem because you can't account over them by accident. I have used Sony, Panasonic, and Maxwell brand disks and never had a problem with any of them, however, the camera does concede if you use a disk that is not a Sony brand disk and it will tell you that a Sony disk is recommended.
I have nothing but good things to say about this camera. I do not require the battery very often, however, there is always a charge when I go and record things so the battery life is great even after not being charged for 6 weeks of rare use. When you do have to demand it, it charges very fast! No more overnight charging! It is extremely lightweight (about 3 lbs) so I was able to record an thorough graduation with it without using a tripod. The screen is a touch screen so you can touch it to go back and forth between the camera features and the camcorder features. Set any settings with the touch screen also.
Awesome camera!

recording wrongdoing
The camera is notable when it worked. Stay away from this model. You will be recording then it will tell you that it can't read the disk an anything you have recorded is mislaid.

Contemptible software and PC interface !!
Byt this only if you programme to never never make a DVD out of multiple DVDs.. ;-) - that is the most common thing I do .. and i guess you all do too.
The software which comes with it is serious. Does not recognize the camcorder when it is connected to the PC - even the the Picture Motion Browser is up !!
DO NOT PURCHASE - unless you have your own software to vocation with!

Very flimsy camera - DON'T BUY!
This is an natural camera to use, but it's not feature loaded. It's convenient to store footage directly to mini DVD disks. BUT - there seems to be a systemic refractory with this camera and I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND BUYING IT. I had precious stuff recorded on one disk, and then the camera up to date me 'Movie Recording Disabled.' No more video could be recorded to the disk, the footage won't fun, and it could not be extracted into a couple of video editing software packages that I have tried. OK, maybe the disk was bad. Not so, as unequivocally the same thing happened with the next disk (Sony brand DVD-R). I recorded some stuff, and now it is lost! A search on Google showed that many populace have experienced the same problem with this camera. Beware - look elsewhere for a DVD camera.

Waited a year to job THIS review to be fair!!!!
I bought this for a Disney Stagger last September and used it a lot since.
Pros:
1. Easy to use. Just pop in a mini dvd and record.
2. Mini DVD finaliztion take care of is a snap, and the dvd will play in most dvd players.
CONS: WHY I RATED IT 1 STAR!!!!!!!!!
1. Forget shooting at ceaselessly. I tried several settings to adjust the night feature to include the night shot lighting. IT SUCKS. Everything looks infrared. My older JVC mini8 took control superiors shots at night. I recently return from the beach and the night shot around the bonefire looked shocking. THIS camcorder is only good during the day. July 4th fireworks all looks blueish red at best.
2. IT BROKE! I Euphemistic pre-owned it(Parties, beach twice, Disney). This camera has a focus issue...look to other forums under clanger 61:11. Eventually the autofocus will break. Mine did three days into my beach vacation. I called sony because i have a 5 year covenant. WHAT garbage. I need to send it in and still pay 100.00 minumum. This camera is going for 200 on ebay.
3. You will consume precious moments until you realize how to use it. When you hit pause the camera goes back about 30-45 secs. When you report again YOU LOSE that time frame. I ran into Snow White and the girls ran up to get a quick hug, then paused and we found Cinderella, and again irascible hug. I recorded and paused then recorded and pause throughout the day. Needless to say I lost alot. No shots with either princess. Your most talented bet is to record all 30 mins non stop and who does that!!
4. Battery is garbage. I had to buy a 3 hour freestyle to supplement the life time of the stock battery. More $$$$ spent.
If I had to do it over I would buy another camcorder. 400.00 didnt last 1 year and Im buying something else. No more cheaply ones like this. Get one with a real night light! Trust me you wont regret it.

Unreal upgrade from my old video camcorder
Purchased this camera before our Existence Series trip to Orlando. Quickly picked up on all all the functions. The zoom is excellent and the unwilling-shake works very well as long as you are not fully zoomed in.
The best feature for me is the super out of it motion setting - allowing me to video my team as they swing and throw at super tardy motion. The video in this mode is crystal clear and I am able to see minor flaws in swings and in pitching.
I also ordered a to one side angle lens for my recorder to use indoors at my daughter's volleyball games.
Downloads video without a hitch.
The software that comes with it gives you minimal support. If you want to create anything fancy for your DVD or Blu-rays, you'll neediness to purchase better software.

Looks modest on a 1080p HDTV
This camera is truly a Consumer Reports Best Buy, so I went to my neighborhood Fry's Electronics to take a look at it in their showroom. To my set someone back on his, they had already mounted this camera on a tripod and hooked it up to a 40" 1080p HDTV through an HDMI port. I played with the camera focusing on population at various locations throughout the store and checked out the results on the TV. The quality was such a disappointment. Edges were feathery and pixelated even on faces that the camera auto-focused on. Anything with sharp lines (like the edges of tiles in the upper limit) actually wiggled while the camera was motionless on the tripod. If I hadn't read the one-star march past for this model on Amazon, I would have thought there was a problem with that particular camera.
I guess if you were just growing to create low-resolution videos to upload to YouTube this camera would probably be just penalty. Since I wanted something I could capture good quality home videos to display on my HDTV, I passed over this camera.

I can't accept this is an 'HD' camcorder!
Sony XR-150 camcorder videos are boggy at the best, whatever the setting, be it in SD (640x480) or HD mode (1080/60i FX, FH)... I compared this camcorder's HD video productivity with my 4-year old Fuji F30 digicam's upscaled SD video (my Fuji digicam has only SD video proposal). Disappointingly, this camcorder produces mediocre HD videos that are soft and are only marginally more intelligent in resolution compared to the upscaled SD video of my Fuji digicam. The marginal improvement in constancy is offset by the oversmooth, soft, washed out appearance of this Sony XR-150 camcorder's video colors. Unmasking-wise and color-wise, the Fuji F30's upscaled SD output looks sharper, and entire, much better despite the being much noisier.
Comparing Sony XR-150 camcorder's SD output with my Fuji F30's SD put out, the F30 is a bit noisier but again, the color and exposure and sharpness and detail is way much better. I was expecting a really dramatic convalescence considering the price of this camcorder and considering that we're talking about 640x480 resolution (Fuji) vs. 1080/60i (Sony `HD'[?!!!] camcorder)... What a disenchantment... I had to return this camcorder and stick to my Fuji F30's SD video until I find a more deserving replacement. (I'm looking at the Canon Vixia HF100).
My warning: Don't buy this camcorder if you want to improve on your digicam's SD videos or the existing videos of your SD camcorders... The video supremacy improvement (if you'd call it that) is not worth the price of this `barely' HD and 'pretentiously' 'HD' camcorder.
---------
Update: August 8, 2010
I've ethical bought the Canon Vixia HF M300 and all I can say is... Wow!!! What a world of difference in sharpness and inflexibleness! Now that is HD! This Sony has fixed auto settings with no manual controls whatsoever while the Canon is fully customizable with directions controls (aperture priority; shutter priority, gain control, etc.). While I do accept at the default point-and-shoot settings (program AE mode) the Canon output looks visibly noisier (horrific trailing noise) but more detailed compared to this Sony camcorder's program AE mode (clean, but oversmooth and mawkish with little detail left not fit to be called 'HD'), the ability to customize the Canon and adjust vade-mecum settings set these two camcorders a world apart. With the correct manual/custom settings, the Canon at $110.18 cheaper ($438.82 for Canon vs. $549 for the Sony) leaves this Sony in the dust. With the Canon, you will see what HD is theorized to be (sharpness and resolution that rival blu-Ray movies and HD channels). If you don't want to learn and toy with manual controls however and just want to point and shoot, only then will I suggest this more expensive Sony because as much as I dislike to admit it, the Sony's program AE settings does appear cleaner (but less detailed) in indoor lighting than the Canon's default program AE settings which I can describe as intricate but just too noisy for my taste. (I'm not talking about what the Canon is capable of achieving with the correct enchiridion settings which is simply spectacular whether it be in the bright sunny outdoors or dim, low light indoors. [Inhibit out my review for the Canon HF M300]).

Very portentous Camcorder
I was from A to Z impressed with the quality of the images produced by this camcorder, even at Standard resolution. I've yet to try using the HD procedure, but can't imagine how these images will appear. The only shortcoming I perceive is that this camcorder doesn't have a through-the-lens viewfinder, but with all at once, I'll be able to adjust. The idea of having every image recorded to either the internal flash approach or a choice of SD or Pro cards makes this camcorder quite versatile. Having a Sony mini disc camcorder (which is operating very erraticly, and in miss of service), I think having fewer moving parts to deal with is a big advantage. The sense of the internal flash drive is more than adequate for my needs. Excellent product.Sony HDR-CX150 16GB Towering Definition Handycam Camcorder

Weighty HD Video Capture Device
I have the Night-time Blue Color available from BestBuy Only.
From owning a Mini-DV camera using MiniDV tapes for the last 8 years ( which I already rumination was goog quality) I never imagined I would have own a Video capture device of this calibre.
Pro's:
* HD Output via HDMI.
* Lightweight.
* Fine touch screen controls. Easy to navigate.
* Simple Design. No Viewfinder, No power-on or off knob .
* Simple Unit Power-on achieved by opening the touch screen.
* Internal 16GB is enough for daily use. Option to install additional memory or SD Stick.
Con's:
* No Remote-Control Election. I miss the remote control. I like to hardwire the unit to my HDTV and control from my sofa. I do not have that option now.
* Should include Mini-HDMI cable by default. The cable costs only $[...] in Amazon.
* Getting to a regarding that the camera can be too small for average adult hands. Clasping the unit on your palm and demanding it with finger tips is slightly challenging at first. One thing is that your 8 year old can easily take videos as well.
FaceBook: HD video wishes to be converted to MPEG2 format via the included PMB software then Facebook recognizes the file for upload.
Comprehensive I am happy with the purchase. I would immediately buy a 30mm filter to protect the lens. A extended battery would also be a saintly idea for those long shoots...

Affection This Camcorder
Elementary to use right out of the box and beautiful video. It's amazing what they put in such a small package; it's very easy to hold without your arm getting knocked out like the old camcorders. I had tried a different brand camcorder and the zoom was very choppy, but the zoom with this Sony is very unobstructed. I also like that it has 16GB on board so I could try it out without having to purchase media.

Omit HD camcorder
I bought this Sony HDX150 Handicam to detail a two week trip to Alaska. After a brief practice session recording a trio jam period at my home - which has been posted on Youtube - I was ready for the trip. The camcorder performed flawlessly, is so dense and light it was a perfect choice for documenting the awesome Alaskan trip. True, the still photos are not as believable as those taken with the two Canon SD1000 cameras we also took with us, but still, they are not bad, and the convenience of clicking the photo knob to add to the videos is great. The 16 gig built in flash memory was also a deciding factor with the realize of this Camcorder. With an added 8gig card we were able to record over 7 hours of video and photos. When we returned digs and I connected the HDX150 to our Sony Bravia HD TV with an HDMI cable I was very happy with the detail and clarity of the movies. The colors and nave were exceptional as well. A perk, and one of the factors I considered when purchasing this camcorder is that with the HDMI connection, the camcorder links to the TV and one can direction both with the TV remote. Lowlight videos came out very natural and impressive. We are very pleased with this Sony HRX HD Handycam. And of route, the price was right even with the shipping charge: $485.

No Viewfinders On Camcorders Surely Not! - AVForums.com
The Canon viewfinder doesn't sign in out in a different place from the camera as the Panasonic did, so at first I found it laborious to act in my normal way. However, I now use the cheer for out blind most of the patch - with the querulous hairs set to on so as to keep the cemera unmodified. It is optimistic enough even on the suniest of duration. I use a altogether manifold approach, which I see few others using on my travels. For steadiness, you can survive the camera in two hands, braced against your league at waist even. This means not holding the camera in one keeping via the strap braced against your eye and operating the ON/OFF knob with your thumb and the zoom with a strike. As a substitute for, the pink hold grips the camera rigidly and you function the other buttons without putting your satisfactorily round through the strap. You also get more fascinating angles for your shots (the camera can be held low or exalted) markedly when shooting kids. All those institution videos of youthful offspring inoculation from six foot in the air so you don't see their faces are a fashion of the gone and forgotten!

Q: Can any one give me some links to low-cost sony handycam camcorders.
A: Whenever someone comes on YA and asks "I requisite an expensive gadget but I want it cheap", ebay is the ONLY workable answer, IMNSHO.
Ashnet was first with this "Best Conform to", and I second it.
Of course, I'm on fixed income, so what *I* about "cheap" is probably substantially distinguishable from what Bill Gates calls "cheap". Even in the Rules of Life, you still have to read between the lines... ;-)
Pearl, I'm sorry to discover about your poor experience with your sony camcorder. I have 3 of them (2 of which I got off ebay), that operate beautifully (I even managed to crack the LCD on my 720, but it "took the lickin' and keeps fairness on tickin'). I love my sony handycams, and I recommend Sony heartfully to others.
If you still have it, put the problem here at YA. Give me the exact model number of your camera and a jump over and concise description of the problem(s) you're experiencing and I'll see if I can help you get it up and direction again.
