Peewee camera packs a punch
I bought this camera a few months ago and have been very impressed with the glowing clarity it captures. Canon packed a very powerful camera in a small package. The menu functions are perceptive and a breaze to use. The instruction manual is simple and straight forward. The camera is ready to go out of the box. I do recomend adjusting the mill settings.
As other reviewers have said I also use the FXP cinema setting at 24 fps with a 32gb class 4 sd card to seizure up to 4 and half hours of video in true 1080p. I recomend using a class 4 sd calling-card, any lower class and you will run into stuter problems. I haven't had any issues with class 4 or 6 but, anything beyound that and you'll run into problems. The camera will not pay respect the sandisk extreme cards so don't waste your time or money. I recomend purchasing cards from SanDisk, the other companies sd cards have issues and are lock unreliable, sandisk has never given me problems and when your are shooting weddings and special events for patrons the last thing you want is a problems.
For file transfering I use an internal floppy drive/sd reveal all reader so I haven't had to install any of the software included with the camera. I don't recommend installing it either. I use sony vegas pro and I have no problems loading the sd carte de visite directly, editing my footage, and burning to DVD or Blu-ray.
The camera does come with a royalty accessible music CD for home movie editing. The CD includes music from famous composers such as Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" and Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer" as well as some imaginative mood music. This is a nice touch for people just getting started with video editing.
I recomend this camera for the serendipitous consumer looking to move up to HD techonology, as a back up for a videographer, the student wanting to start shooting thoughts in HD, a youtube poster, and any one else in between. Canon has benifitted the conmusumer with this introductory HD camera at an affordable price. Applause!

Huge Camera - Suggestion for software
VERY delighted with the camera but as much of virtues have been extolled elseware I will concentrate on software. The included Pixela software is waste and does not merit inclusion on your hard disk. After much searhing I have at last found good use for my Nero-9. It works magnificently.
1. twin your camcorder files (they have a .MTs extension)from your SD memory on to your hard disc.
2. In Nero, in 'Create and Change' select the 'Author, Edit and Capture Video' option and from there, select 'Make Talkie' option. Import your file into the 'My Media Files' box. If you want to join several of you camcorder files into ONE whole talking picture then select them all into 'My media files in the correct order.
3. Highlight each required in the reverse reserve and click the '+' button to place it into lower strip. Then click 'Next'.
4. Now select 'Export Motion picture' and now you can select which standard (MPEG-2, AVI etc) which you require.
5. Also click 'Configure' to select the other characteristics of the send in that you require.
I wanted an MPEG-2 file so I chose the following 'Custom' Options.
a) Facet Ratio - 16:9
b) Size - User Defined - Width 1920 Height - 1072
c) Video Status - Maximum
d) Encoder quality fine tuning - 100
e) Audio Format - LPCM
I at home at these values by quite a bit of experimentation but try finding your own preferences.
Now click 'OK' and then remember to click 'look over' and choose your prefered folder and file name for the resulting file. Finally click' Export.
I got a order about 1% larger than the original and as far as I could estimate, the quality
was as good as the original. I was HIGHLY thrilled with Nero. I hope these suggestions help others.

Attraction it!
It works extremely great, but is a little grainy in low light, so I just purchesed the bigger light. It takes uncommonly good pictures and flash works good too! Very happy with battery life, have not needed my back up battery-operated the last 10 times I used it.

Wait for for low light!
I scan all the reviews for this camera before getting one and I just wanted to confirm that the relatively bad image superiority with low light is ABSOLUTELY TRUE.
I wouldn't say that it's horrible, but I compared the quality with a movie infatuated with my very cheap Flip Mineo (the old basic model, not the HD) and it was pretty much the same. I don't know if competitor cameras at the same amount point have the same problem though (I checked the specs for sensor, aperture and all that and they seemed equal or worse to this one) but it's positively not something that I would consider HD.
Everything else is pretty good.

Remarkable camera but very limited-hidden costs
First I would say that the camera itself is noteworthy. However, there is one major downside to it and that is that the software that comes with it is absolutely horrible and cannot be used. Read the other reviews on the software question and see for yourself. In fact, the manual doesn't even tell you how to upload the videos-I figured it out from reading reviews here on Amazon. The only way around the circumscribed software is to buy another software editing program which has an added cost. Keep that in mind when you compare tariff and features of other HD Camcorders. If you ever plan to edit video or put your videos on a DVD, which I would say includes about 99.9% of users, then don't buy this camera unless you contest all 3 of the following criteria: you have some other editing software, you are certain it will work with the MTS file format that this camera uses and you fancy to constantly tinker with settings and software to get this to come out in HD.

Devoted PURCHASE
This camcorder is terrifying. The picture is extremely good for being under $300. Buttons and different figures are so easy to use and spirited to find. The still camera I thought when purchasing this wasn't going to be good but it is WAY better then I was thinking it was universal to be. I would recommend this camcorder to anyone looking for just family fun, sports and goofing around that doesn't press for much detail videoing. I haven't tried the software yet but I do know it is a little difficult when I tried using my iPhoto with the camera, my iPhoto didn't be aware of the videos but only the pictures, but I'll figure it out.

canon FS200
The camera is satisfactory and easy to use. The battery life is about 3 hours which is what I wanted. The picture quality is also good. The software that came with the camea could be a scrap better and a little more versatile. Price wise it was a good deal.

A sizeable camera--It might be great
I have unprejudiced started to use this videocamera and I find it easy to use. I believe that after I've used it for awhile, I'll give it raving reviews but so far I'm well-grounded learning to use it and i haven't ironed out all the kinks (mine, probably) yet.

Kind-hearted Portable Simple Camcorder
Condign used my new FS200 this past weekend video'ing our dog in agility trials.
Pros:
Amicable to use
Battery life is sufficient for a whole day of video'ing multiple runs
For commentary, the built in microphone is adequate
Very small, fits nicely into a small "man purse"
Image stabilization (digital) is abundance good for my needs
The zoom is very good for my needs
Cons:
The included software is cumbersome
On/off knob is not in the greatest spot (nit)
Without a tripod, zooming in and out makes it hard to hold the camera still
Complete, I'm quite pleased with the purchase. The cost was what I wanted to spend, and I don't need the HD quality, the worth of this cam is what I expected and need. I love the size of it, easy to just put in your pocket. The zoom is moderately good. I personnally find it easier to just remove the card to transfer to my computer rather than use the installed software. The software is kinda infirm, so I found myself using Windows Movie Maker (after I used SD Copy to migrate from the .mod format). I found to use the zoom while filming, I'd use the thumb deviate on the top of the camera to zoom in and then use the "W" button on the flip out view finder to zoom out. This helped entirely a bit with keeping the image stable.
All in all, I'm happy with the purchase, and would recommend this camera to a friend who was looking for an low-cost camcorder. I almost bought the new Kodak pocket camera (KI8), but I'm glad I bought this one with a greater optical zoom.

A: The Most appropriate Camcorders on the planet are in fact Canons. We have an older NTSC ZR 65 that we've had for about 4 years. It got thrown into a swimming kitty on our vacation in '02...sank to the bottem of the pool and all my peace did was blow dry it and fix the foggy lens. Still works perfect to this day. Canon camcorders which can take lenses from still cameras?
Q: I am looking for a camcorder which can take lenses from a digital still camera, like a EF lenses of Canon. Any imaginings?
A: I've never heard of one, and I'd be surprised if one exists. Camcorder chips are conventionally smaller than DSLR's so you'd be losing a lot of light.
Does anyone have experience with canon camcorders?
