Battery-operated WON'T CHARGE
I only received this camcorder yesterday and when I plugged it in the battery wouldn't charge. I'm waiting for complex support to let me know how to proceed.

Aiptek A-HD camcorder
I ordered this camera based on it's demand of high quality HD video. The result was much less. For starters the LCD view screen is so poor that even in the overcome of conditions it is very hard to see what you are filming. In any kind of bright light, or low light you can barely see your cause in the viewer. The color quality was extremely poor... picture was grainy. The rudder are poorly placed on the back of the camera making it very hard to hold, film and manipulate the zoom, etc. at the same in unison a all the same. Bottom line... You might as well take video with your phone, the quality would be better. I sent the camera back for a refund.

Happier than expected
I purchased this camcorder while researching other grave end camcorders and decided not to spend too much as I am into still photography and could allocate the resources into my passion rather than in a camcorder that I will not be using much. I am very impressed with the establish, quality, ease of use and battery life. For the price that I paid for, the results are outstanding. I did not wish this quality from such a cheap item. However, I have to tell you that if you are viewing the downloaded files in a non-64 bit auto, the video looks choppy. It's only after I got a new 64 bit machine and viewed them again that I was able to tell the contrast.
The only downside that I find with this camcorder is the zoom in and zoom out feature. Not very impressive range or quality. But for the premium, I can't complain either. I would recommend to anyone who is not intending to be a pro in videography.

Not good the money ot time
The only paraphernalia thing about this camera is the size. Despite it claiming to be HD, all it in fact does is shoot at 60 FPS in 1080i inflexibility, but even at that setting, the video I shot using two of these cameras from two different angles was so choppy in it's zooms and movements that it was clearly unusable. I wound up having to replace them with better Sony DV camcorders after only one use. I would not recommend this product to anyone for any reckon.

It at home BROKEN and has poor low light
I was skeptical to requisition it because of the mixed reviews. I ordered it and charged the battery and the unit would not power on. The unit would serve with the power cord connected so I can only assume there was an issue getting power from the battery. Shooting surface or in good light the quality of the footage is great. The flaw is low light, the footage is joyless. I have a Flip and shooting in the same low light the Flip UltraHD is bright and clear while the Aiptek can only show silhouettes.
Comparing this to the Top UltraHD:
LCD is better on the Aiptek because it is adjustable
Aiptek has variable frame rates and its HD quality is sharper than the Freak
Flip has no menu option just shoot 1080p at 30fps
Like the fact that the Aiptek can sucker at 720p at 60fps
If you plan to shoot indoors do not get this camera unless you are ok with having to light your susceptible to first.
If my Aiptek had worked out the box it would still get returned becuase of its low light capability.

Okay, but went back
After some investigating, I purchased this to have something with me at all times to capture pictures/video of my five year old. I had it about a week before I returned it, though. The pictures it took in daytime and surface were not bad quality-forget poor lighting conditions. Video was the same. What was really the deal wave was how long it took to snap a picture. I missed too many shots waiting for it to snap the portrait I thought I took seconds before. I returned this and purchased a Kodak zi8. Took direct pictures-quality not as good as Aiptek's. Same thing in low lighting situations except this one didn't even have a flash-this one went back too after a duo of days. My last purchase was a Nikon Coolpix S570 that takes 12MP pictures and video. I ruminate over this is what I should've bought in the first place. I think it just depends on what you want the equipment to do and what your purpose is. My digital camera didn't travail anymore so I wanted something to take decent pictures along with the video capability. The mini/pocket camcorders, although a superficial concept, just didn't give me the picture quality I needed. As a secondary item, not my zenith source, they may have been okay.

Shirt bag HD Cam
Condign got the HD-1 for Christmas and haven't given it a full work-out yet but everything about it seems perfect thus far. My computer 'recognized' it right away and I can use the great pictures it takes with my photo software. It charged easily via usb connection and the battery-operated lasted all evening at a family gathering. It is a lot of camcorder for the money!

I Turtle-dove this Camera!
All correct, so I'd been looking for a better camera than my old one for months, but every time I looked at one, there was some big flaw with it that was a deal wave to me, such as, It was to expensive, only recorded in 720p and 30 frames per second. (Which is the lowest form of HD in actuality. Anyway, I looked at this one and OHMIGOSH! It had everything the $500 camcorders had. It has
1080p at 30 frames per second
720p at 60 frames per next for action shots
It has a place to put an external mic
It has a 5x optical zoom and a 4x digital zoom
It has video stabilization
It has a considerable battery life
It works with wondows
And it's only $164!
It doesn't get a whole lot better than that anyway, but for just 164 bucks that's awful.
So when I got it, I immediately started filming, and it was great. There are only to problems I can see with this camera. First off, Windows will accept the videos it shoots but Windows Motion picture Maker wont, as WMM doesn't take the .mov format. So, I suggest getting a new edting software if yours won't take .mov. Alone I like Pinnacle Studios 11, which will take the HD format.
Overall a great camera. I fancy you enjoy it as much as i do.

Mania on this one
I ordered an Functioning-HD GVS 1080P which arrived today. While I was charging the battery I read the instruction manual and was surprised to impute to there is no image stabilization when recording in HD 1080p. This is not mentioned on the Aiptek Products page at all. Saying that I do see this mentioned on the Amazon web period. If I would have known the "gyroscopic stabilization" is only available when recording at 720p I would not have ordered this camcorder. Seems the Amazon issue description is better than that of the manufactures web page. Kudos to Amazon boo hiss to Aiptek.
After the unit was charged I made a few dumpy videos in the environment I would use this camcorder in, that is, inside the house recording my wife and children. First off the enquire of is absolutely horrid with a whine that is not acceptable. I also noted a few burnt pixels during playback. I took the freestyle out and replaced it thinking that might correct the problem but it's still there when I recorded some more video. Picture quality is much poorer than my Canon miniDV camcorder (non HD) which genuinely surprises me. Yes, this video camera shoots in HD dimensions, but has very poor picture quality at 1080p. The video is very grainy and the coupй-focus does not work unless you hold the camera very still. If you plan on recording your fret at play indoors find another camcorder.
Half the reviews say this camcorder is not worth the effort while the other partly say it's the best camcorder they have ever used. Maybe I got a bum unit, but as it stands, I give this camcorder a half pre-eminent out of five. Within 3 hours of being out of the box it's back in the box ready to go back to Amazon.
As an aside I never got the software on the included CD to install on my computer (WinXP) nor my woman's computer (Vista) either.

Tuneful poor video
I bought this to use on my accumbent trike to make videos of my rides. The videos this device makes have a swimming or underwater effet to them. As the camera recordes the unfixed image instead of it being a normal looking image the image seems to flow and move at different times - I use this is due to the camera not being able to process the data fast enough. I consider this camera to be completely unserviceable and wish I could return it.

Aiptek Distinction Control and Customer Service Missing in Action
I was undeniably looking forward to putting this inexpensive camcorder to work, but unfortunately we never even got to the starting ceil accept bribes. After examining the contents of the package I discovered that the battery charger cradle has a round power promote but the wall charger supplied has a mini-usb. Hmmm? Can you say square peg in a round hole? OK, no big arrangement...I will call Aiptek in California and have them send the correct wall charger, or battery cradle. Boy was I naive. After spending 20 minutes on the phone infuriating to convince the customer service rep that I was really not interested in trying to steal an extra telegraph for my camcorder I was informed that they would not send a replacement until I returned (at my expense) the incorrect cable. I then asked to convey to a supervisor. 10 minutes later and the rep came back on the phone and said that since I had purchased from Amazon I would have to take the event up with them. Fine. Amazon returns, I learned, are painless. I returned this piece of junk and ordered a unaffected camcorder from a real manufacturer (Canon). Save yourself from Aiptek. They obviously have no control over the Chinese narrow manufacturer who is building this junk for them. Five stars for Amazon though, who continue to impress me with first class work.

Aipek .asf video playing on computer
There are several ways to trifle with the .asf video files on the computer. First, media player in my windows vista does not play these files. It keeps saying there is an audio codec missing. I have the VLC actress and it does play these files. I just went into the default programs area to colleague .asf files with the vlc player instead of media player. You can also change the file name from .asf to .asx, I tried that and media punter did play the .asx file. Also you can convert the file from .asf to something that media player does play such as .avi files. The camera software disc that came with the camera has a cinema converter or you can use any other converter. I really like this camera, espesially it's ability to record off the tv or dvd athlete. In fact I was looking for a low priced camera to put in my shirt pocket while recording off my night illusion device and I found it. My Canon TX1 does not have a video input,only output.

Poor, poor quality, broken video files
The video is modest quality. The build quality is EXTREMELY poor, the charger for the battery that is supplied is over-particular (the battery has to be seated 'just right' in order for it to charge at all) and when using the A/V in it often creates discouraged files that cannot be played back at all.

Distinction Control Issues
I purchased this three years ago when it first came out - including all the extras, battery-operated etc...unfortunately, the quality is simply not there. Image is fuzzy, shakes easily and although convenient - the pictures and images hand a lot to be desired. However, the biggest problem was the batteries - every one of them died quickly after just a few charges none would set back a charge. Basically, an inferior piece of junk that had a lot of potential. BTW, I didn't exactly have leading expectations - just wanted something to leave in the purse or toss around for those spur of the moment situations. Didn't even fit the bill for that.

Superlative camera for the price
I was very impressed with the camera. Pretty lenient to figure out and use. The battery life is great, the quality options are fine. It's a little exasperating to have to go through the menu and set up the light each time you turn it on, but not a deal breaker. Great price, too. We were proficient to record our baby's first Christmas with it. Very happy :)

Genuine footage
Spot 10 videos (without changing batteries) while visiting relatives in Tallahassee Florida, and was impressed. Fair-minded go slow in panning camera, and as much as possible, use a tripod. I only have a monopod with me and it shows. i got some camera shakes when i stirring. Search Youtube for 12 Lipa, and click on FSU Swing band. I don't know if I'm approved to post a link here, but here goes; [...]
BTW, I use the plastic cap of a one gallon water jug, just snipped off the inner halo, and it fitted perfectly over the lens.
Great product that i always carry always strapped on my belt. Never virgin a video-shoot opportunity; get one..

important little vid cam
outrageously easy to use. great features, especially with AV IN. plugged my bullet cam in and it worked like a sorcery beauty. though product feels cheap, can't complain especially when it's at a great price. not recommended for Stygian shots though, no matter how much lighting you have...
battery life is not great, so always bring an extra one if you're gonna be out the whole day...

Not up to camcorder expectations
I bought this to get HD camcorder, and reflecting that the 3x optical zoom would suffice.
However, I find that I've barely used it since the required light levels are so heinous that you tend to be outside, where the 3x zoom is not sufficient.
Recently bought a stills camera with built in video role, and have used that more. It has better zoom, and better low light capability.
So this is disappointing; it will probably be benefit because it's solid state, and can record very low res (like web cam) for very long time, but not what I wanted it to do.

Significant Buy
I bought this camera recently but now use it almost only. It's the second videocam that I've owned and this one is a real improvement over its predecessor. The videos come out HD and I upload them onto YT with assuage. Honestly, they're pretty impressive. [...]. Further, you can set the camera on high resolution and it creates some unquestionably beautiful pictures. Yes, its size is a little ungainly but I have Carhartt shorts with a side panel away with that's just big enough to hold it. I have to say this camera is one of the best buys I've made.
