Mac Fans, Respect Not!
Before I purchased this matter, I went to the Samsung website, downloaded the manual and spent a week perusing the features. While it's honestly that they do tout their own software, which is solely Windows compatible -- guess what? If you are a Mac user who has iLife, (I'm using a resolute little dinosaur of a Powerbook G4, running Mac OSX 10.4.11 with iLife 05) the video files created by this camera are straggle and drop, and you should be able to view and edit them with ease. I'm still marvelling at the amount of features that are included in a camcorder that, when closed, is about the enormousness of a cola can. (And you bet I'll be taking this to Disneyland with me when I turn forty-coughcough.) I'm really enjoying this great little gadget.
Late Breaking News: The raw footage is importable into the Movie portion of iTunes with no problem; I currently use iTunes version 7.7.1, and the importation was a snap.

Not outstanding Video Camera - There's Good & Bad

At this price, a consumer really shouldn't require too much. But a product that works reasonably well shouldn't be too much to ask for. Samsung's SMX-F34 is a decent lower end video camera, but it has a few flaws that keep it from being a complete all-purpose model. If you want a very portable camera to carry around and shoot video for uploading to YouTube, then this is a contender.
Let's look at its solid points:
1) Easy to use. Simple set-up out of the box and intuitive controls. You'll be shooting in no time. The manual lens provide for is a bit of a hassle though.
2) Good battery life. I get about two to two and a half hours out of the stated three hours. It charges virtually quickly too.
3) Lots of options. There are probably more features than you'll ever use.
4) Long zoom, though the stability guidance is only useful to about 10x. And you can hear a click when you release the zoom button.
5) Built in 16GB memory (with election to add more). It is nice not to have to buy additional memory unless you want it. 16GB should be fine for most users. You can fit up to 8 hours of video at the lowest settings.
6) You can come round digital stills (photos) while shooting, though don't expect great quality.
7) Decent video mark, in well-lit conditions. All of the automatic functions serve help the F34 take the best possible video it can in whatever predicament you find yourself. The lens is of good quality, though it is limited by the small sensor. There is a threaded ring around the lens big angle lenses and other filter attachments are possible. The microphone is decent as well.
This all sounds fairly good and for the money you'd be getting a good deal. However:
1) Fragile. Mine came with a broken lens coat out of the box. It slides open just fine, but one of the doors is loose and won't close. I use my finger to stimulate it shut. The build quality of the F34 feels flimsy and I am afraid that something may break under normal use.
2) Usual for this class, low light image quality is not that good. This was worse than I expected though, very grainy with unfruitful color. This camera begs for a larger sensor, though I would expect to pay more for it.
3) You can upload video to YouTube and diminish it on you computer using the okay but limited software provided, but unless you have a way to easily convert the basic file format, it is useless for other purpose or to burn to DVD. The process to convert and share should be easier.
4) Influenced files tend to get a big "jaggy" and their quality suffers from the native MP4. The overall image importance is a slightly blurry, even in the best conditions. There is also a bit of lag if you move the camera around while shooting. For best results you dire to keep still or use a tripod.
5) I ran into many instances where the F34 had trouble focusing, though it eventually does lock in if there is enough light and it is not zoomed too far out.
If you are on a budget and perfectly need a knockabout camera to upload clips to YouTube, then the Samsung SMX-F34 could fit the bill. However, I'm leery of the assemble quality and if you want it use it to make DVDs, be prepared for more work and less than ideal final video after converting from the H.264 MP4 files.

Prodigious, practical and good video quality
I have owned this Samsung camera for about 2 weeks now, The incipient purpose for the purchase was the birth of my first baby girl. It is a very easy to use idiot proof camera. Starts up rakish, starts shooting in a couple of seconds and the video quality is good. It is naturally not a HD video, but you get what is promised and paid for. I would buy again.

Moderate to use, basic little camera
The software that came with the camera Media Show is ghoulish and freezes alot. But I did not buy it for the free software, The camera itself is excellent. I can easily upload the videos without the software. The zoom works glaring. The buttons are self explaining. I love the fact that I have the choice of saving it to a memory in the offing or internal HD. Excellent camera, Excellent price.

Hmmm not as satisfactory as I thought it would be
I was looking for a miserly camcorder that had decent quality.... I wanted HD but decided to settle for standard delineation. The shipping was fast and it was well packaged. The camcorder is nicely designed, it has good battery subsistence and the media is easy to import. However, there were still a couple of things that disappointed me about this camcorder.
I know that were in HD times now but touchstone definition is still pretty good. So I was expecting decent quality. I even read reviews and watched a one of test video on youtube and the quality seemed decent. When I played a test video on my t.v. the importance was decent but then when I played it on my computer the quality was horrible. I thought it was my laptop computer that made the quality looked so pre-eminent, so I tried it on my desktop but the quality still was not what I expected. I imported the media 2 ways onto my computer:
1. I opened the video dossier and then copied it to my folder... the quality was horrible and made me look greyish.
2. I imported it with the software that came with it.. the qaulity was wagerer but it still was not impressive.
When I watched the video on the computers the room looked dark yet I had a light when over the camera. The colors matched my clothes but my face look greyish. The quality was pleasing when it played on my t.v. and even on even on the LCD but when it hit the computer it was blah. My logitech proo 900 webcam has better pic and video calibre then this camcorder.
The second thing that I didn't like was when you plug in the charger and turn the power on the camera will not expect... it only seems to charge when its turned off. The last thing I didn't like was it didn't have capability to string livecam.
Over all its a nicely designed camera that is very easy to use, but the quality was my biggest turn off and it just now wasn't what I expected. I went through the return process the same day that I received the camera, so Samsung doesn't get my guarantee on this camera. You get what you pay for with this camera, so I'm now looking for a camera in a higher price range that will give me what I'm looking for.

Accomplished camera
Look, this is a accomplished camera. I see the reviews that say that it's a big problem that you can't edit video on a Windows PC easily. My answer is get a Mac. Put faith me, I'm not a Mac guy. I hate those "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" commercials. Apple is the new evil empire. This camera is the new way to get great video recorded and edited for you memories. I predilection it. Bought it from a pawn shop for $200 and I have never spent better money for what I will get. Go with Sony when tenable, you will be happy.

DCR-SR45
I was looking for a cheap camcorder with Night shot and stablization for our Paranormal investigation group. I also wanted a brutal drive so we wouldn't have to change DVD's or tapes every hour. I found this display model SR45 for a little more then $200.00. I was actually pleasently surprised by what I got.
I found that I could record on HQ for almost 6 hours and on standard for over 10 hours. The night dream was perfect, and the cameras internal Mic picked up sound just as well as out top of the line olympus DVR. The FH100 battey powers the camera for 5 hours(mobile was extra) When you attach the camera to a wall plug in, on a tripod, and with a large IR emitter you get the largest night shot video I've ever seen. Later we transferred all the video's to a DVD via a DVD burner....the organize was very impressed. For an older model Camcorder we couldn't have found anything better at 4 times the price.
Its taper , easy to handle, instructions are simple, easy to transferr videos, and you can also do videos or stills on the memorie anniversary card.
If your looking for a low budger Video camera we recomend the SR45

Terrific camcorder
Surely like this camcorder. Very easy to use. Too bad it has been discontinued. Great feature is the Nightshot Plus. Newer camcorders do not has this quality, bad move on Sony's part.
Only down side is it takes an extreamly long time to download the video to a computer.

lots of latitude, very handy and looks and feels great!
I purchased this almost an year ago to supply my digital camcorder and my digital camera. See I wanted to make a "Media Bag" which would keep all of my digital kit and its accessories in ONE PLACE, so I can keep track of them, and easily manage them. Its definitely very very roomy. Not only could I fit my camcorder (revolver DC230 + the camera(in its pouch), but also all of their accessories combined. Plus all the extra batteries for the camera, a pocketbook, some personal documents, their manuals,cables....you get the picture. And its got a nice, soft sense to it and looks more expensive than what it is priced for.
Very strong too, you can alter the shoulder strap length and has a young carry handle as well.

How to replace hard drive in camcoders?

I am planning to buy a magisterial drive camcoder, but I don't have any idea about the reliability of hard manipulate in camcoders. What is hard drive carsh? can we recover it? if not can we replace the ardent drive? what would be the cost of these hard drives.

A: A lot of questioners have had problems after their HD camcorders have had somewhat minor accidents such as falling off a chair - I don't think they're very able-bodied yet. The people offering a hard drive recovery / replacement checking don't seem to advertise their prices, which is probably a clue.
A head smash is when the heads come into physical contact with the magnetic disk - whether or not you get in a different place with it depends on how lucky you are.
